Golden Goose

13 Aug

Throughout the world, there are all kinds of expressions of wealth. For some, wealth is represented by the time they spend in the natural world, communing with nature. For others it may be the time they spend with family and friends, exploring life and getting close to one another. Many of us appreciate those things but also understand that having some financial wealth is necessary for us to live effectively and comfortably. We all need shelter, clothing and food, and it takes money to get them. Despite what you may hear, nothing, absolutely nothing, outside of fresh air, is free. Someone will always have to pay for whatever is wanted or needed. How much money we have depends on a lot of factors, and doesn’t usually just come to us just because we need it or want it. We’ll have to do what is necessary – whatever that may be – to get it. No matter how much we acquire, we may feel we want more. Money can’t buy happiness, but it’s an excellent lubricant to make the things we want to do easier to achieve. If we become consumed with acquiring financial success, we may do anything to get it. Excessive wealth may look very appealing, and if we’re determined to have it, and don’t actually have a goose laying golden eggs, we might forsake anything and everything that stands in our way. We may neglect our personal relationships, impact our health by working excessive hours, and focus only on the next dollar we can earn. There is nothing wrong with amassing wealth, but if it’s our only focus in life, we may miss out on the connections and time with others that will bring us deep satisfaction and happiness. Our lives are ours to design, and by keeping our perspective, deciding what we want, and what’s most important to us, we can make good decisions that bring us both comfort and contentment. Money is great, but nothing is more valuable than our personal happiness.

The world values money and places great importance on it. We are often bombarded with messages that we should have more, and get more of it. Being rich might be nice, but it doesn’t equate to being intelligent, kind, insightful or anything else. It just means there is money available, which is just a tool that can open more doors and allow a little more freedom to accomplish certain things. It allows us to pay bills, buy products, and if we want to, donate to others. It cannot solve problems, heal a broken heart, mend a relationship, or bring us lasting happiness.

It’s easy to envy others who have more monetary benefit than we have. They can do things and go places we may not be able to afford. It all looks great from the outside, but true, lasting happiness can only come from within. By doing the things we want most to accomplish, building strong, healthy relationships, and striving to be the best we can be, we will achieve a level of happiness that money can never bring.

Today, think about what brings you the greatest satisfaction. Value your relationships and build great connections. Choose the road ahead that brings you the greatest joy. Focus on your personal happiness, instead of wealth, and you’ll be richer than you can imagine.

What They Have

29 Jul

We share the planet with lots of other people. They constantly come in and out of our lives, and unless we live on a deserted island, they are all around us. Every person is unique and we all have our own ideas about how things should go and what we should do. We make our own decisions along with all the others around us. When we see someone with a life we think we want, we may wish to be like them. We might watch them and begin to copy what they do, thinking it will bring us what we want. If someone at work is more successful than we are, we could follow their lead and it may bring us greater success. It’s true that if we do everything someone else does, we may get what they have. If it turns out that’s what we really want, we’ll be happy, but seeing just what’s on the outside can never tell us the entire story. Seeing someone with lots of money and influence may look appealing, but doesn’t expose the long hours of work, missed chances for a family and time with friends, or the loss of connections from intense ambition that may also be part of the package. Following another person’s choices will only take us where they want to go, and will never take us to the life we want the most. Our dreams and goals are specific and personal to us. There isn’t anyone else like us in all of creation, and we have gifts to offer the world that nobody else can give. Being true to who we are, and honoring our own choices will bring us great satisfaction. Our happiness is important. By choosing our own journey, we can make all our dreams come true.

If we’re dissatisfied with what we have or what we’ve accomplished, we may struggle with low self-esteem. If we see someone who has more of what we want, we may envy their lives, and feel diminished by their success. Envy is a powerful emotion that never brings happiness. We can step away from it by focusing on the good we’ve accomplished, and reminding ourselves that nobody has everything. Instead of feeling envious, we can celebrate the success of others, focus on our own goals, and move forward with confidence toward the dreams we want to accomplish.

There are endless ideas about life and what is means to be successful. We may have pressure from family or friends to live a certain way, and accomplish certain goals. We can always go along, and take their suggestions, but if they don’t lead us to our own destinations, happiness will elude us. Our lives belong to us. We can listen to any advice given, and then choose the roads that will take us where we most want to go. All our dreams are there for us. We can do anything. By creating our own individual journeys, and reaching our personal goals, we will find happiness and great success. Everything is possible, and we will win.

Today if you’ve been following someone else because what they have is attractive, remember there is always more to the story. Chart your own course for the future. You know what you want, and have everything you need to succeed. Be confident, and step ahead with clarity and focus. Every dream is there for you, and you will make them yours.

Success

10 Mar

We all want strong, fulfilling lives that move us toward what we want the most and bring us happiness. While that is always possible, we must first decide what we want. Many people say they want success, but just saying we want to be successful means nothing. It’s an obscure thought without definition or plan. What does success mean? Is it all about monetary benefits where we have all the money we want and need? Or is it something defined by accomplishing a certain level of excellence in some area, or reaching some defined goal? Whatever it is for each of us, if we want to achieve it, we must make a plan for getting there. How can we reach the goal? What must we do and where must we go? What needs to be done to pave the way forward? What changes, if any, must we make to reach it? An undefined and unspecified goal is impossible to reach. We must clearly decide what we want, and determine how we’ll get it. Once we define those things, we can begin to move ahead toward the goal. We can be as successful as we desire if we’re willing to do what is necessary to reach the goal we want. If we stay focused and continue to push forward, we will prevail. We can have the lives we dream about but they won’t just happen. Success won’t simply fall into our laps because we’re nice, or because we really want it. We must plan and then work to get what we want. Everything is possible and nothing is too difficult to accomplish. We already possess all the strength and courage we need to do anything we desire. Our lives are ours to design. With determination and focus, we can go anywhere and reach any goal.

The world is filled with endless opportunities and possibilities. There are limitless things to do and countless places to go. We’re in control of our lives but if we don’t know what we want, we may spend a lot of time standing still. The options are endless but if we stand still, we cannot experience anything new. New experiences enrich us and give us greater depth and understanding of the world around us. We can trust ourselves to step forward and open a new door. We can have the lives we dream about by taking a step forward and making it ours.

Many people equate success with money. While money can do a lot, it doesn’t create true happiness. It’s just a tool that unlocks a lot of doors. Personal happiness comes when we’re successful in the things we value. When we have strong, healthy relationships with those around us and do what fulfills us, happiness will follow. We can have deep, rich lives, and reach every goal we desire if we focus on what we want the most, and then do what is needed to get there. We deserve complete happiness, and with determination we will reach it.

Today if you’ve decided what you want the most, make a plan to achieve it and step forward. Nothing is out of reach and you can have the life you dream about. You are powerful and strong, and nothing is beyond your reach. Be confident. You will succeed and nothing can hold you down. Every dream is possible and you will win.

What it Means

19 Jul

There are all kinds of ways to define success in life.  We all have ideas about what success means and how we manifest it in our lives.  Some believe it’s defined by money or position, or by those we know or over whom we have influence.  The outward appearances of success may involve many things but real success has little to do with what others see and more to do with how we feel.  Our personal success is intimately tied to who we really want to be and what we personally want to achieve.  Ultimately it must be defined by us and how we choose to live our lives.  No matter how we define it if we achieve what we determine is best for us we will find happiness.  The world has all kinds of ideas about how we should live and what success looks like but if want to be truly happy we must define it for ourselves.  We are always in control of our personal decisions and we may direct our lives any way we choose.  If we are true to the things we desire most and do what is needed to achieve them we will find great success.  Our personal successes will bring us great confidence and clarity as we move forward and help us define the paths we want to travel.  We know what we want most in our lives and who we want to be.  Every choice we make will either take us closer to those goals or move us in another direction.  As we move forward toward our personal success we will find great satisfaction in our journey and fulfillment going forward.

Outward success is essentially arbitrary and may be expressed in countless ways.  If we are convinced it’s merely a reflection of our monetary worth we may strive to acquire money in order to feel successful.  If we determine it’s how we are ethically and morally we may pattern our lives after the values we hold dear.  What it means is entirely up to us and has little to do with how others define it.  There may be pressure to conform to the definitions of success as determined by our social group, family or others and we may certainly follow any direction we choose.  In the end if we choose what is most important to us, despite the ideas of others, we will find happiness.

We must live with ourselves and our decisions every day.  If we choose to go along with others for the sake of convenience or conformity we may get the goals we want most or we may not.  When others are driving the train and we’re merely passengers we have no control over where we’re headed.  However, if we proactively direct our lives and make choices with our personal goals in mind we will reach the destinations we want most.  We deserve every happiness and reaching for our personal successes will bring it to us.

Today if you’ve been following someone else’s idea of what you need to do to be successful, decide what you want most.  Determine where you want to go and who you want to be.  You will reach every destination you desire and find great personal success.  There isn’t anything you can’t do.  Go forward with confidence.  It’s all there for you.

True Competition

25 Apr

There are all kinds of ways to compare ourselves to the world. We can determine how we measure up to performance standards we admire, notions of beauty we desire, levels of success we strive for and thousands of other ideas. Although we may compare ourselves with others, our true competition is within ourselves. It doesn’t matter what anyone else achieves, how much they acquire, or what they define as success. We are the ones who determine what success is in our lives. If we emulate someone else’s achievements we may get closer to the goal we’re seeking but our personal success is unique to us. We must define true accomplishment in our own lives. Each of us has specific and unique talents and gifts we bring to the world. We will not find success by trying to give the world something we don’t possess. Understanding who we are and what gifts we offer will help us find our way to the lives we want most. We don’t need to compare ourselves against the accomplishments of others. We may set our own goals and standards and achieve them our own way. The world may set all kinds of ideals for what it defines as success, but true success comes when we give our best, no matter the outcome. We are the only ones who can truly judge our performance. We are our true competition.

There are a lot of ideas and opinions about what success looks like. Some believe it’s a reflection of material possessions and the more we have the more successful we are. Others think it has to do with power and having control over many people. Still others equate it only with money with the goal to have a lot of it. But we define what true success is in our lives. There is no success greater than doing our best to live the lives we most want. We determine what that looks like and only we can decide if we are accomplishing the goal. Our competition lies within us and the choices we make every day. What others think really doesn’t matter.

We live with ourselves every single day. There is no way to escape the choices we make or the decisions we choose. If we aren’t living in ways that bring us satisfaction and happiness we can change. True happiness is available to everyone but we must make decisions needed to bring it to us. We can compare ourselves to everyone around us, to what others think we should do, and try to model our lives after examples we admire. But real happiness will only come when we do what is best for us. We don’t have to compete with what others define as successful. We can define it for ourselves.

Today if you’ve been trying to measure up to someone else’s ideas and competing with those around you, remember only you know what makes you happy. Make choices that bring you the personal successes you seek. You know the perfect path forward. Choose it, and you will find joy as you move forward. Every success you desire will become a reality. Real happiness is there for you and you can have it.
