Remembering

22 Dec

As we move through our lives we face all kinds of situations, meet various kinds of people and learn constantly.  We know who we are and what we want to do, but there are continual influences all around us.  Some are intense and strong, and as we get caught up in everything going on we may fall into those influences and forget who we really are.  As time goes by if we continue to adopt the patterns and choices of others instead of choosing what we want for ourselves, we may end up living a life that doesn’t genuinely represent us.  It’s possible to live our whole lives doing things others expect, or living in ways that fit someone else’s ideas.  Our lives are precious and belong completely and utterly to us alone.  We can manage them any way we desire and design them to fit perfectly into the choices we want.  It takes courage and strength to stand on our own if our choices don’t match what’s happening around us.  Everyone is different and we all have our own ideas about how life should go. It’s easy to go along with everyone else and try to assimilate into the expected norm.  But we deserve to be ourselves and can remember what we really want and where we want to go.  Life is an incredible blessing.  Living our lives authentically and doing what is most important to us, even if it’s different from those around us, will bring us happiness.  We have everything we need to find satisfaction and happiness in our lives.  Being true to who we and remembering what we want will take us there.

When we need to drive from one place to another and we’re in a hurry, a nice paved super highway is a good idea.  There are no stoplights to impede our progress and the roads are straight and clean, making the journey easy and quick.  If we need to accomplish something quickly, we may choose to simply go along with everyone else in an effort to get the job done as fast and efficiently as possible.  That’s fine when all we want is to reach the goal.  But if we want our views heard, our ideas are important, and we can slow things down, speak up, and choose what’s best for us.

There may be someone in our lives we are very attracted to, or admire very much, and their ideas and opinions are important to us.  We may bend our personal needs and preferences to accommodate them and adopt their ideas in order to get close to them.  Letting go of our own choices are might work for a time but we cannot keep who we are boxed in forever.  We need to be free to express ourselves genuinely and remember what’s important to us.  We have gifts to offer that no one else possesses and we may offer them openly and with confidence.  When we are true to ourselves we will find success and happiness.

Today if you’ve been playing along in a role that isn’t you, let your true self shine through.  You have so much to offer and the world is blessed because you are here.  Share your unique gifts with us and show us who you are.  There is nobody else like you and what you have to offer is precious and desired.  Remember who you are and let us share your life.

Endless

21 Dec

Sometimes we must face a very difficult situation that carries with it extreme sorrow and sadness. Things may go very wrong, something unexpected may break our heart, and we may be left standing, bereft and broken. If the pain is very deep it will take time to recover and as we walk through it we may feel the hurt is endless. It may seem there is no bottom to the well we’ve fallen into. It’s hard to move forward when we’re in pain and we may believe the suffering will never stop, and the millions of tears and sleepless nights will never end. But each day moves us a little further down the road and away from the sorrow. Even if it’s hard to imagine, joy will return. The hurt will heal and we will be whole again. The only thing we can depend on in life is change. Whatever we’re going through today will be different in some way tomorrow. It’s impossible to keep things exactly the same over time. Just like each night eventually ends with the rising of the sun, no matter how sad and bereaved we may be, there is light ahead. We can hold on during the difficult moments knowing they will pass. We can take comfort that our suffering will end. Hard times come to us all and we each manage them our own personal way. If we need to be alone, we can. If we want to be with others, we may reach out to them. Whatever it takes to heal and right ourselves is there for us. We can be patient when it hurts, and remember this is just a passage that we will successfully walk through. Life is long and many things will come to us. We have everything we need to manage any difficulty or sorrow. We can find the light to brighten the darkness and get through.

Our individual experiences are very personal. How we manage them and process them is unique to us, and may be very different from the way those around us would handle the situation. It doesn’t matter how anyone else would manage our personal experiences. We will find the way that works for us and helps us continue walking forward. There is no one right way to live life. We can do things our way and get back on the road that leads us forward.

There are no rules for how long sorrow should take to overcome. Some people manage disappointments and trouble quickly and let it go. Others need more time to process what’s happened and decide how they want to move forward. Great upsets may change the course of our lives and we can take all the time we need to understand where we are and determine where we want to go from here. We have enough strength even when we feel weak, and we will know what to do. There is no reason to doubt. We are strong enough to face any adversity and continue forward.

Today if you’re struggling with sorrow and it seems it will never end, look back and see how far you’ve come already. If you’ve only moved one step forward you are closer to where you want to be. Have faith. You can do anything and nothing is strong enough to defeat you. There is sunshine ahead and you are only steps away from the light.

Collateral Damage

20 Dec

Everyone has their own plans about their lives and what they want to accomplish.  As we interact with one another there may be some tug and pull moving forward.  When we were young we were taught not to push or cut in line in an effort to get to the end more quickly.  Although we may think we learned that lesson well, when there is something we really want and others are in the way, we may justify pushing them aside or jumping ahead of them in order to get there.  If we don’t care what happens we may run over them or bully our way through.  Some people believe the ends justify any means necessary and if that means hurting someone else, so be it.  Every time we hurt someone serving ourselves we may be burning a bridge.  Perhaps we don’t think we’ll ever return so it doesn’t matter how many we burn pushing ahead.  But life has a way of looping back around to where we’ve been and if we must come back it’ll be harder to find success if we’ve eradicated the connections necessary to allow it.  No matter what our goals are or what time frame we’ve set to accomplish them, it is far better to work with those around us than against them.  We can find successful ways to incorporate others if they are in our way and allow them to help us move forward.  Bringing those around us into the plan will allow us to build strong connections that will help us through and be there in the future.  We can do anything on our own but sharing the journey with others will make the trip more interesting and may take us to the destination more quickly.  Collateral damage isn’t a requirement for success.  We can build bridges instead of burning them, and move forward together.

Someone near us may be very ambitious and determined in their desires.  If they want something we have they may simply take it instead of asking for it.  If we must interact with them we may feel great frustration or anger as they act out in discriminatory ways.  We don’t have to allow others to treat us badly.  We can speak up and set boundaries that bring us confidence.  We deserve respect and consideration, and we may demand it.  The world doesn’t belong to anyone.  We all have a part to play, and we can own what is ours and define what we need.

We may be a situation where someone hurts us deeply as they push forward to get what they want.  Maybe they destroy a tender relationship we have with someone else, sabotage us at work, or cast aspersions on our character.  It’s painful to go through such betrayal and it may be hard to get back up after being knocked down.  But we have all the courage and strength we need to face anything that comes, and with grace and patience can continue forward despite any efforts to stop us.  Success is always there.  There is nothing and no one powerful enough to hold us down.

Today if you’ve been brushed aside or demeaned by someone pushing their way ahead, step out of the way and let them pass.  You can move forward on your own road without interference and find success.  Trust in your abilities and strength.  You have everything you need to be happy and reach any destination you desire.  Be confident.  Everything is there for you and nothing will keep you from it.

Pause

19 Dec

When we’re working on completing a goal or pushing through an important project, the last thing we want is an interruption. However, this is life and unexpected developments come to all of us. When they do and we’re busy we may push them off in order to get back to the task at hand. It’s good to be focused and nobody wants to go around in circles with continual detours. But some things may happen that need our attention and ask us to stop for a moment to address them. If something happens to someone around us where they are hurt or confused, or need our help, we can stop what we’re doing and turn our focus to them. Projects, goals and deadlines are important but nothing is more valuable than the human spirit. Often what is needed won’t take long before we’re back on track again, and the time spent giving assistance may change someone else’s life. Being the best we can be isn’t just about what we accomplish but about the attributes we gain as we travel forward. Who we are is far more important than what we’ve done. Achieving goals, being ambitious and getting things completed are all great assets. Becoming compassionate, caring and kind are attributes that will change our perspective and benefit the entire world. We can accomplish anything we set out to do but we don’t have to get it all done today. If someone needs us, really needs our help, we can take a break from the journey and share our lives with them. When we do, we will find greater joy and a deeper understanding of who we are and what we really want.

It’s easy to get tunnel vision when we’re trying to complete something. We can tune out everything around us and become immersed only in what we want to do and where we want to go. We may not hear other voices, we may not see anything but the road ahead, and we may miss a lot of information as we push through. If we are oblivious to everything but what we want to accomplish, we may miss the needs of a friend, or the request for help when someone is falling. Our goals are important but keeping them in perspective will help us live our lives more fully and effectively. We can be open to what’s going on around us even when we’re pushing forward, be available when someone needs us, and still accomplish the goal.

Pausing to help someone is thoughtful and kind but we may get into a situation where someone abuses our kindness. We can evaluate each situation objectively and decide how much we can offer. We can be helpful and still manage our time carefully to ensure we achieve what is most important. There isn’t anything we can’t do and being mindful of those around us and managing our time will help us succeed.

Today if you’ve only been focused on the goal you want to achieve and zoned everything else out, look around. If there is a need, offer your help. You can accomplish your goals and still be available to those around you. Learn to be giving and compassionate, and carry those attributes forward. Share your life with others and everything you desire will come to you. Be a gift to the world. You have the power to change everything.

Agreement

18 Dec

We have control over every decision we make. If we are careful and thoughtful, our decisions will take us where we expect to go. We may have times when we think about a decision that is outside our moral or ethical standards. Perhaps we believe stepping a little off the road will get us to a goal more quickly, or we may intensely desire something that can only be gained by going out of bounds. When we are pondering those decisions, we may reach out to someone else to explain why it’s important to do this. Getting agreement from others for bad decisions may give us more confidence and make us feel we have permission to stray, but agreement never changes the parameters of any situation. Even if everyone around us agrees with us, a bad decision is still a bad decision. The choice is ours to make, and we will suffer alone when all the balls fall, as they inevitably will. Truth always surfaces. If we’ve chosen badly and done things that have hurt others, broken a law, or in some way cheated, all the facts will come forward. And when they do, no matter how much company we had racing down the road to destruction, we will stand alone. If we are tempted to do something ignoble, we can take a moment and consider all the consequences that may come. Every decision brings a result. We have control to choose anything we desire but we have no control over the consequences. We can choose wisely even if being unwise is more attractive. We have all the strength and wisdom to make choices that will bring us happiness and peace, and have lives filled with glory and success. It’s all up to us. Our lives will be the reflection of every choice we make.

Pressure to conform may be very strong. If those around us are comfortable making decisions that are not completely honest or moral, and they are powerful and convincing, we may be influenced to join them. There may be pressure to follow along with questionable ideas or plans. If our connections to those involved are very strong we may feel we have no choice but to do as they suggest. But we always have the power to say no. We don’t have to agree with anything that isn’t right for us no matter who is involved. Our lives belong to us and we may protect them and guide them according to our own standards.

Agreeing to go along will not make a bad decision good. We don’t have to agree with anything that goes against our core beliefs and we may politely and graciously decline to participate. When we know we are doing what is best, we will be confident going forward. Our lives are ours to design and every choice is ours to make. We can choose our personal best and when we do, will find success and happiness.

Today if you’re considering something that will take you off the road that’s best for you, think again. There is no reward worth seeking that takes you away from the person you want to be. You have greatness inside you. Choose well and take the path that brings you complete success. You are a great blessing to us all. Show us your best and you’ll find joy and happiness.
