The Greatest Risk

31 Jan

We can do anything we set our minds to.  We can achieve any goal, go anywhere, and accomplish anything we desire.  The whole world and all its options are always available to us but nothing will come without action.  They say the greatest risk of all is inaction, and that’s true in every arena of our lives.  It’s unlikely that anything we truly desire will come to us without effort.  Our lives are in our control and every choice we make takes us somewhere.  If we choose to sit on the sidelines or ride along with everyone else and put no effort into our direction, our lives will roll out on their own and we may end up somewhere we never wanted to go.  It’s like getting on a bus not knowing the destination and simply arriving wherever it takes us.  Of course, if we haven’t decided where we want to go, one bus is as good as another.  But our lives are the greatest blessing we possess.  Doing nothing to make them the way we truly want them will never bring us happiness.  Although it’s easier to let others make decisions about where we go and what we do, living authentically and in control of our destinations will bring us great satisfaction and joy.  It isn’t always easy to forge ahead our own way, and there may be others who disagree with our choices, but we are in charge of our lives and may live them any way we choose.  Taking control, taking action, and moving forward with purpose will take us where we want to go and help us fulfill all our dreams.

Before we begin any journey we must decide where we want to end up.  It’s pointless to travel around going here and there and having no destination in mind.  Being busy doesn’t always equate to being productive.  If we flit from one idea to the next, and constantly change our focus, chances are we’ll spend our time actively engaged in going nowhere.  It’s easy to get caught up in a world filled with distractions and if we aren’t careful we may find a lot of time has gone by and we’ve accomplished little.  We can decide what we want, where we want to go, and then move forward.  We are in control of our decisions and can accomplish anything we desire.

Change is the only constant in life and sometimes on the road to a destination we may face insurmountable obstacles.  Sometimes even if we know where we want to go the road ahead is blocked and we can’t move forward.  We can decide to stop and wait until things improve and our situation changes.  Deciding to wait is not inaction.  It’s choosing to revise our plan going forward.  But no wait is permanent and when things change if we still want to get to the goal, we must begin again.  We can have any kind of life we want.  We need only choose the road and start walking.

Today if you’ve been thinking about something you want to accomplish but have done nothing to move toward it, make a plan and begin.  You can do anything.  You can go anywhere.  Decide what you want the most, and start forward on the road that will take you there.  There is nothing out of reach and you can make all your dreams come true.  Start walking.  Success is just ahead.

Now What

30 Jan

As we’re moving through our lives, focusing on our goals, enjoying our associations with others, and working toward our destinations, sometimes things go exactly the way we plan. Events roll forward in predictable ways and the road ahead is open and unobstructed. When we’re moving forward and things are going well we feel confident and sure of success, and it’s only a matter of time before we achieve the goal we’re seeking. And then out of nowhere, sometimes everything changes. We’re steaming along and suddenly the bottom falls out of our plans. It’s like running headlong into an invisible wall. We may be stunned and rattled, speechless and unable to move. Sudden changes turn our course immediately, often without warning, and we may stand stupefied for a moment and wonder, now what? If everything we depended on disappears, and everyone who was with us turns away, we may be left standing, bereft and confused. Change is part of life and sometimes the changes we experience are extreme and unexpected. When they happen, it may be so dramatic and all encompassing that we may have no idea how to proceed. If we stop and stand still, and take some time to wrap our heads around all the changes and understand where we are now, we will find the courage we need to continue. The road we were on may be gone but there are countless others we can take and we can start again. We can regain our footing, refocus on what we want to do, and step forward.

When our lives are routine and things are happening the way we expect them to, we feel comfortable and sure. We know how our days will go, and everything is familiar. It’s good to feel relaxed and we may become complacent thinking we’ve got everything under control and all is well. If things suddenly change our first instinct may be to deny what has happened. We may believe if we don’t acknowledge the situation it won’t impact us. Looking away from an issue will not remove it, and ignoring problems will not solve them. Although we may desperately want things to stay the same, change will come, and we can do what is needed to continue forward.

When our lives suddenly change in ways we don’t want and didn’t expect, we may try to force them back to the way they were. We may attempt to restore what was, but there is no way to go back in time and no way to change what has happened. Life marches forward and will not retreat. We can step back, take time to process our new reality and then decide how we want to continue. All our dreams can come true but sometimes we must take the long way around to get to them. If things go wrong, we can find another way. If the bottom falls out, we can rebuild it. Everything is possible and nothing is strong enough to keep us from our goals. We can keep moving forward through any complication and find success.

Today if all your plans have suddenly gone up in smoke and you feel lost and confused, take a moment to understand where you are. Look around and decide how you want to proceed. The goal is still there for you and you can still reach it. Decide on the way forward and start again. The road is there and success is only steps away.

About Time

29 Jan

Time is an eternal concept that has no beginning and no end.  It continues forward uninhibited and uncontrolled, and there is no way to hold it back.  No matter what we’re doing, it constantly advances and nothing we do can stop it.  As children the days seem long and time is rarely a factor in the things we do.  As we become adults we learn that our time has parameters we must work within and when we’re busy it seems to move more quickly.  Because we have no control over the passage of time, we must learn to manage it effectively.  There is no way to add another hour to our days because we are overextended.  We have the same amount of time each day to accomplish the things important to us.  If we get distracted, if we lose focus or forget our objective, we may find the day goes by and we haven’t accomplished what we wanted.  We are always in control of our lives and every decision either takes us closer to or moves us further away from our goals.  If we take control of our choices and are clear on our direction forward we will accomplish much.  Everything is possible if we are aware and willing to do what is needed to accomplish it.  We can manage our time carefully, think about the best plan going forward, and achieve any goal we set.

When we’re working on something important and we have a time limit there is added pressure to get things done.  If the parameters are sufficient we may be successful, but sometimes the limits put on our endeavors are unrealistic or complications come up that prevent us from moving forward, and we don’t make the cutoff.  If we can’t extend the time needed to complete a task and it’s impossible to get it done before time is up, we will fail.  There is no way to see all the twists and turns of any journey from the beginning.  Sometimes things go wrong, sometimes people get in the way, sometimes nothing works the way we think it will, and we fail.  But failure to complete one task does not mean failure overall.  We can begin again, make a new plan, and accomplish anything we desire.

Procrastination is a dangerous habit.  It’s simply a decision to delay action over something or to put a task off until later.  We can always change our plans and if necessary, wait to accomplish something while doing something else.  But habitual procrastination can lead to carelessness or even laziness.  If we get into a habit of always putting things off we will accomplish very little.  There is rarely a perfect time to do anything, and if we want to get something done we can find a way to do it.  We are in control of every move we make, every choice and decision, and we can be successful in accomplishing many things.  Everything is available to us and we can move forward with confidence and purpose.

Today if you’re pressed against a time limit for a task you’re trying to complete, work as efficiently as possible and accomplish what you can.  Manage your time effectively and plan accordingly.  You have everything you need to be successful.  Be wise and thoughtful, and go forward with confidence.  There isn’t anything you can’t do.  Everything is possible and you will reach the goal.

Fairytales

26 Jan

We are in control of our lives and everything we do, where we go, and what we want to accomplish.  However, we don’t have any control over what others choose or how they impact us.  We live in a world with millions of other people all making decisions.  Sometimes their decisions can get in our way and stop us from moving forward.  When that happens we can look at our options and find another road.  If we’re deeply enmeshed in a situation and intensely desire a chosen outcome, when we’re stopped in our tracks, instead of changing direction we may wait, hoping things will happen on their own.  Maybe we have a job where we’ve been promised advancement but over time those promises haven’t materialized.  Or we’ve fallen in love with someone who says if we’re patient and wait they’ll come around and spend their lives with us, but nothing changes.  Reality isn’t always what we want it to be and if it’s hard to accept we might choose a fairytale instead.  We may cling to a situation hoping it will change even if there is no indication that will ever happen.  Hoping for a fairytale will never bring us lasting happiness.  Fairytales are not real.  They do not exist in the real world.  Holding onto something that will never happen holds us in place and prevents us from moving forward.  We deserve complete happiness.  We deserve the lives we want the most.  Spending our time wishing for something that will never be will only bring us sorrow.  We can look at everything openly and honestly, and choose the roads ahead that will take us where we want to go and bring us complete happiness.  Our lives belong to us and there is nothing strong enough to keep us from success.

It’s good to be patient and wait when we need to.  Patience is an excellent quality and we can wait as long as we like, but we need not be patient indefinitely.  If nothing changes we can evaluate how long we are willing to continue before moving forward toward a new goal.  Our lives are precious and we are always in control of our decisions.  We can choose happiness and continue forward at any time.

It’s possible to follow a dream we desire indefinitely.  We may convince ourselves if we just try a little harder or wait a little longer everything will work out.  Sometimes a little more patience or effort will push things forward.  If they don’t, we can look at the situation objectively, let go of any fairytales we’ve been holding onto, and decide how to move forward.  Fairytales are wonderful stories of make believe that have no bearing on the real world.  We can see our lives clearly and openly, and accept what is real.  True happiness is always available to us.  We can face everything truthfully and confidently, and have the lives we want the most.

Today if you’ve been hoping and waiting for something to happen but nothing has changed, think about what you want the most.  There are unlimited possibilities available for you to find complete happiness.  See everything clearly and understand what is real.  Move forward and you’ll make your dreams come true.  Nothing is out of reach.  Take control and get what you want.

In the Mud

25 Jan

Muddy, unpaved roads can be tricky to navigate. It’s hard to tell how thick mud is and if we hit a spot that’s very deep we may get stuck. It’s almost impossible to get traction through the mire as it oozes, and although our tires may spin around we may get nowhere. It’s frustrating to end up in the mud with no way to move forward but if we’re prepared we can address the situation and continue on our way. In our lives as we push forward toward our goals, it’s impossible to know what lies ahead. Sometimes the road we’re on gets messy, and just like getting stuck in the mud, we may be held in place until things clear again. If the complications are caused by others we may have to wait until they change their course or allow us to pass. However, many times, the obstacles are created by something within ourselves. Maybe we doubt we can continue forward, or we’re confused about what we should do next. Sometimes we get stopped because we lose our focus and have forgotten why we’re on the road to begin with or exactly where we’re headed. Life is complicated and busy, and there are lots of distractions around us. If we forget our reasons for going forward we may simply stay where we are. It’s like getting stuck in the mud. We’re still on the road but we’re going nowhere. Getting stuck doesn’t mean the journey is over. We can rethink our position, examine where we are and decide what we want to do next. Every goal is within reach and we can keep moving forward no matter what’s happened. We can address the mud, reset our priorities, and begin again. Mud happens, but we have everything we need to overcome it and achieve success.

There is no way to know what the future will bring. We can make the best plan possible and try to envision the complications we may face, but our situations are constantly changing and unforeseen problems may arise. If we aren’t devoted to the goal we may stop or retreat at the first snag. When we get to a difficult turn we can throw our hands up and walk away, or we can take the time we need to see everything clearly and plot our way through. Some problems may be intense and complex, but no matter what comes we have all the wisdom and intelligence we need to figure them out. There really isn’t anything strong enough to hold us in place if we want to continue forward.

Some roads will be more difficult than we imagined when we began. We may find the journey takes more time and energy than we planned on. If the demand is greater than we can manage now, we can set the goal aside and return to it when our situation has changed. There is no rush to complete a goal and sometimes all we need is more time. We can do anything we want to do and work around any complication. We can decide what’s most important and continue forward.

Today if you’re stuck and can’t move forward, look at the situation objectively and see where the problems lie. Decide if you want to continue or wait until things change, and then proceed. You can do anything and no goal is too far to reach. Set your priorities and continue forward. Success is always there for you, and you will find it.
