Down the Road

15 Jun

As we’re making decisions and choosing our way forward we are sometimes influenced by other things going on in our lives. If we’re angry about something we may make a decision that reflects that anger and choose a path that takes us somewhere we really don’t want to go. If we’ve been hurt by a situation and new opportunities remind us of it we may turn away from them fearing we will get the same bad results. We make decisions based on where we are today and although there is sometimes no way to know where they will take us often we can see down the road far enough to where we’ll end up. However, if we’re distracted, angry, or frustrated and feel like it doesn’t matter we may make choices that have more to do with how we’re feeling than where we want to go. Every road has a destination. If we don’t want to go where it leads we must modify our way forward and turn toward what we want most. If we are deeply emotional about a decision we may not see clearly where it will take us. We are capable of making excellent choices and we can go anywhere we want. If we plan ahead before we begin it will be easier to navigate and find our way. There are always many things going on in our lives and around us. We can take the time we need to look ahead and chart a course that will take us where we want to go.

Sometimes we make choices with no regard to where they will take us. If we’re blinded by the moment we may storm ahead on a road that leads to trouble and complication. There may be an emotional connection that has us confused, or an attachment with someone who is lost and taking us along with them. Perhaps we become tangled in a relationship that holds us down and it’s difficult to let go and move forward. If we get lost on our way we can stop and re-direct the path ahead. We have all the wisdom we need to create successful, happy lives and if we trust ourselves we will find the road we’re seeking.

There is great power in our emotional attachments to others. If they direct us one way, we may follow trusting them to know what’s best for us. They may know some things about us but nobody will ever know us as well as we know ourselves. If someone says we need to do something but we aren’t sure, we may step back and look at the situation clearly and objectively. If their choice takes us where we want to go we may agree but if we want something different we may choose our own road. We are in control of our lives and can choose any path we desire. We can make sure the end of the road is the destination we are truly seeking.

Today if you’re headed somewhere you don’t want to go, stop and rethink your way forward. Look ahead and chart your course toward the destination you desire. There is no road too hard to find or too far for you to travel. You have everything you need to do anything you desire. Direct your life forward. Everything you want is waiting for you and you will have it.

Getting Power

11 May

Life can be complicated. Some days we sail through without a care and then in an instant everything changes and what was true becomes completely false and we stumble. We may experience doubt and frustration trying to right ourselves again, and if the situation becomes very difficult we may wonder how to find a way through. There are countless things that can go wrong every day and when they do we may feel temporarily confused and lost. Fear may encompass us as we try to navigate forward and we may not know what to do. We might wish for power to overcome the issue but power doesn’t come at the beginning of a trial. We gain it as we move forward through the problem. Taking action even when we’re unsure brings us confidence. If we remember all trials are temporary and keep the long view in mind we will conquer our fears and have the courage needed to press forward. We have everything we need to succeed even in complicated and difficult times. We can rely on our strength and trust in our faith to move forward. There is nothing too difficult for us to unravel. No life is without problems and challenges. We have the courage and the wisdom to find our way and gain all the power we need to succeed. We’ve come through problems before and prevailed, and the power we’ve gained so far will help us do it again.

When we’re in the midst of a personal struggle we may only see our own lives. It can be hard to see others when the pain of what we’re dealing with is intense. We may withdraw for a time, keep our heads down and try to hide out until we feel more confident. Taking a break from other pressures while trying to solve a problem can be helpful but we must not bury ourselves so deeply we don’t come out again. The world is filled with all kinds of pressures and problems and hiding from them will never solve anything. If we need a break we can take it but as soon as possible we can return to the situation and do what is needed to move forward.

Some problems are very personal. We may not wish to bring others into the situation because we are embarrassed or concerned about what they may think. However, if we’ve been struggling for a time and still can’t find the way forward we may reach out for help. Those who care about us will listen with compassion and do what they can to offer assistance. There isn’t anything we can’t overcome no matter how hard it may seem at the beginning. We can find the power we need to prevail through any complication.

Today if you’re facing a difficult issue and aren’t sure how to proceed, if you’re afraid you can’t find the way forward and feel powerless to continue, remember all the times in the past you’ve prevailed and overcome. Take your time, get help if you need it, and be strong. You will overcome any issue you must face, gain power as you move forward and find your way through. You have more courage than you realize. Trust in yourself and stand tall. You will succeed and be stronger in the end.

Blame Game

4 May

Sometimes things go wrong and our plans don’t work out. Perhaps we were in the wrong place, it was the wrong time, we worked with the wrong people, or dozens of other reasons. When we’ve worked hard to achieve something and everything falls apart we may look for someone or something to blame. There are times when the decisions of others stop our plans, and other times when circumstances prevent us from moving forward. We can certainly place the blame anywhere we like when we’re facing disappointment, but placing blame doesn’t help us move forward. If we’re angry, concentrating on what we believe is at fault may stop our progress. In the end, no matter who or what we blame, we are where we are and it really doesn’t matter what went wrong. We can voice our opinions about how things should have happened and express our frustration over decisions that have been made, but none of that will change our situation. We will still be exactly where we are. If we want to move forward and achieve the goal we can try again. Taking time to review where things fell apart may help us find a better road ahead that allows us to reach the destination. Every experience – both good and bad – teaches us something. If we learn all we can from the things we’ve done already we have a better chance of finding the right way through next time. There is no goal too daunting for us to achieve. We can let go of disappointment, start again, turn in a different direction, and move forward.

Life is full of challenges and opportunities. We can go anywhere we want to go but if success on our journey depends on the decisions of others we may have to re-route our course from time to time. Everyone has their opinions and ideas about the way things should be. If we’re swimming upstream and pushing against the norm we will likely face barriers. That doesn’t mean we have to turn around and follow everyone else but we may have to modify our course to accommodate the situation. We can be flexible and turn when needed to navigate our way to the destination we desire.

There may be times when someone purposely prevents us from moving forward. Perhaps they don’t agree with our plans, don’t understand what we’re doing, or simply want us to stay where we are. If they block our path and there is no way around them now, we may set our goal aside for a time and begin again when our circumstances change. There is often no set timetable for success. Although we may be impatient, if the goal is not possible now, we can wait and try again later. Things will change and our opportunity to move forward will come. When it does, we can be ready and begin again.

Today if something has prevented you from reaching a goal, don’t waste time blaming the situation or those around you. Look at everything objectively and decide how you want to proceed. You can accomplish any goal you desire. If you must wait, prepare and be ready for when the right time arrives. Success is there for you. You can plan effectively, and you will win. There isn’t anything you can’t do.

Finding David

28 Apr

We’ve probably all heard the story of David and Goliath. David was a normal sized man who came up against Goliath, a mean and vicious giant. Goliath tried to kill David and if were only a matter of size and strength would have succeeded. But David was skilled with a slingshot and in the midst of being pursued, sent a rock sailing through the air that hit Goliath in the head and killed him. When we think about this story we may marvel at David’s ability to keep his wits about him while being chased by a murdering giant, and being able to steady himself enough to make the shot that saved his life. While it’s unlikely we will ever be in the same sort of circumstance, we may face times in our lives when we feel we are being pursued or overtaken by something far bigger than we are that is threatening and making us afraid and unsure. It might a person who has power over us or a situation we can’t control. Whatever the threat, we may feel it’s too big for us to overcome. No matter what the issue or how powerful the other players are, we always have choices about what we will do. We can run and hide if we decide the fight is too strong but hiding from our problems will never solve them. We can pretend the issue isn’t a big deal and look the other way, but ignoring issues doesn’t solve them either. In the end, the only way to address whatever is disturbing our peace is to face it head on. Like David, we have to stop and turn around, and look right at the head of the problem. There isn’t any issue too hard for us to face and solve. We have enough courage and wisdom to manage anything that comes. We can find the David within us, face our problems, consider our options and find the way forward that brings us success.

There are some people who want to control others and situations. They need to have the final say, they demand their way be honored and they want to be in charge of where things are going. When we must work with them we may find it hard to be heard and if we push against them, they may aggressively constrict our efforts and exert pressure upon us. If we strongly believe in our views we may struggle with them before decisions are reached. Although it may be uncomfortable to disagree, our opinions are valuable and we deserve to be heard. We can state our case and press for what is important. We have all the strength and courage we need to proceed and win.

We may face a painful situation where we have little or no control over the outcome. If there is nothing we can do to mitigate the problem we may need to simply endure. It’s hard to wait through hard times when we have no control. But even as we wait we can exercise the courage to be still, and the wisdom to listen. If our only option is to endure well, we can still choose the best course forward and succeed.

Today if you’re facing a threatening situation and you feel apprehensive, find the David within you. You have all the courage you need to face anything you must. Reach for it and be strong. You are secure and capable. Look ahead, aim high, and push forward. There is nothing too big for you to overcome.

Not Getting Up

27 Apr

We all experience good times and bad times as we navigate through our lives.  Sometimes it seems we can do no wrong and every choice we make brings a positive result.  Other times we may face situations that fail no matter what we try.  We all face moments when everything goes wrong.  Everyone falls down from time to time but falling down never means failure.  Failure comes if we decide not to get back up.  If we decide we’ve had enough and quit, if we turn away and give up, only then do we fail.  We can accomplish anything we want to do if we are willing to do what it takes to get it done.  Some plans don’t work out, sometimes we struggle trying to find the way through and sometimes the situation is far more complex than we knew at the beginning.  We can always change our plans and choose another road.  We are in control of our lives and if our first choice doesn’t work out we may decide to change our plans.  Making a change isn’t the same as giving up.  Giving up happens when we really want to achieve something, and quit.  It’s always possible to modify our way forward but we will never find success if we stop trying.  There really isn’t anything we can’t do but we have to be courageous enough to face the wind and determined enough to modify our direction when complications arise.  We have all the courage and determination we need and if we press forward, no matter what comes, we will win.

There is no way to know what will come to us in the future.  We can try to prepare for unplanned eventualities and complications but sometimes the road takes a hard turn we aren’t ready for.  Even if we find ourselves in foreign territory and are unsure which way to go we can regroup and take the time needed to find the way forward.  We are smarter and more capable than we think we are and we have everything we need to succeed.  If we trust ourselves and take our time we can work miracles and change the course of any path until we reach the destination.  No matter how many times we fall, we can get up and start again.

If the road has been long and difficult and we feel the fatigue of the struggle, we can step back for a time and rest.  Most goals we want to achieve don’t have stringent timeframes attached to them.  If we need a break we can take it.  After we feel restored and ready we may begin the journey again.  With diligence and continual effort forward we will reach the destination we are seeking.  We have enough strength to go keep going and we will win.

Today if you’ve been struggling trying to move forward and you’ve fallen down, get back up.  Take a moment to step back and think about the way forward.  There is no road too long for you and no complication too difficult for you to solve.  You can do anything.  You can work miracles.  Remember who you are and pull from the strength inside you.  You have everything you need to win.  Nothing can stop your success.

True Competition

25 Apr

There are all kinds of ways to compare ourselves to the world. We can determine how we measure up to performance standards we admire, notions of beauty we desire, levels of success we strive for and thousands of other ideas. Although we may compare ourselves with others, our true competition is within ourselves. It doesn’t matter what anyone else achieves, how much they acquire, or what they define as success. We are the ones who determine what success is in our lives. If we emulate someone else’s achievements we may get closer to the goal we’re seeking but our personal success is unique to us. We must define true accomplishment in our own lives. Each of us has specific and unique talents and gifts we bring to the world. We will not find success by trying to give the world something we don’t possess. Understanding who we are and what gifts we offer will help us find our way to the lives we want most. We don’t need to compare ourselves against the accomplishments of others. We may set our own goals and standards and achieve them our own way. The world may set all kinds of ideals for what it defines as success, but true success comes when we give our best, no matter the outcome. We are the only ones who can truly judge our performance. We are our true competition.

There are a lot of ideas and opinions about what success looks like. Some believe it’s a reflection of material possessions and the more we have the more successful we are. Others think it has to do with power and having control over many people. Still others equate it only with money with the goal to have a lot of it. But we define what true success is in our lives. There is no success greater than doing our best to live the lives we most want. We determine what that looks like and only we can decide if we are accomplishing the goal. Our competition lies within us and the choices we make every day. What others think really doesn’t matter.

We live with ourselves every single day. There is no way to escape the choices we make or the decisions we choose. If we aren’t living in ways that bring us satisfaction and happiness we can change. True happiness is available to everyone but we must make decisions needed to bring it to us. We can compare ourselves to everyone around us, to what others think we should do, and try to model our lives after examples we admire. But real happiness will only come when we do what is best for us. We don’t have to compete with what others define as successful. We can define it for ourselves.

Today if you’ve been trying to measure up to someone else’s ideas and competing with those around you, remember only you know what makes you happy. Make choices that bring you the personal successes you seek. You know the perfect path forward. Choose it, and you will find joy as you move forward. Every success you desire will become a reality. Real happiness is there for you and you can have it.

Reset

10 Apr

There are many roads and journeys we can take as we live our lives. We can choose any direction or destination we desire and move forward until we get where we want to go. Sometimes we know what we want and exactly how to get there. Other times we may be unsure but continue forward hoping when we reach the destination it will be what we’re seeking. As we travel along if we begin to feel doubt about what we’re doing and aren’t sure the road we’re on is where we want to be, we can step away and change direction. But if we’ve been on the same path for a while and there are a lot of connections we may be hesitant. Turning may mean a lot of change and take a lot of effort. It doesn’t matter how long we’ve been going one direction. We always have the power to move. Everything we do teaches us something and sometimes we have to go left for a while to discover we really want to go right. Life is all about learning. As we travel along sometimes we may decide where we want to go is different than where we’ve been headed. We may always redirect our course going forward in the direction we’re seeking and start again. No step forward is wasted. Each step teaches us something new and as we refine our vision we may correct our direction to where we most want to be.

When we’re working with equipment sometimes everything stops and we get stuck. We have to press the reset button so everything will begin again. We don’t have reset buttons in our lives but we may certainly stop and consider what we’re doing at any time and if we aren’t happy with where we’re headed or haven’t accomplished what we wanted to do, we can reset our lives and start again. We always have the choice to change anything we like. If the road we’re on is not taking us to a destination we want to achieve, we may step away from it and chart a new course.

Change may be unsettling. If we’re resistant to it we may find ourselves doing something we don’t want to do and going somewhere we don’t want to go simply because we’re worried about the change. Routines can be comforting and knowing what to expect is easier than traveling on foreign territory. If we stay in situations we don’t really want we will never find true happiness. There isn’t a road we can’t travel and nothing we can’t achieve if we’re willing to try. We have enough courage and wisdom to make decisions that will bring us real satisfaction. We can choose a new way forward and move in the direction we want most. Our lives are ours to design and we can do anything we like. We can go where we want to go with confidence and clarity, and get to any destination we choose.

Today if you’ve been on the same road for a while and you aren’t sure it’s where you really want to be, change your course. You deserve every happiness and there isn’t anything you can’t achieve. Decide what you want most and then chart your course forward to get there. All your dreams can come true. Start walking toward them. They’re waiting for you.
