Time’s Up

20 Nov

There are times we might face a deadline with something we’re working on.  It doesn’t happen all the time and when it does there may be an added measure of intensity and focus on the project in an effort to comply with the required parameters set forth.  If we have all the information we need and are able to plan effectively, often we will meet the deadline.  But if there are surprise developments that block our way forward, they may uncontrollably delay our progress.  If the goal is very important to our personal or professional growth, any complication may increase our stress level as we try to proceed.  When there is much to do and time is short that stress may become quite intense as we try to push ahead.  If the situation becomes confusing or there are a lot of factors in play, we may feel overwhelmed and unable to focus clearly on what we should do next.  Time constraints add an additional dimension of pressure to any task we want to complete.  When there is a lot going on and much to accomplish we can find our way through more easily by stepping back for a moment and looking at the big picture.  It’s easy to get caught up in one detail and lose track of how far we’ve already come.  When we see everything objectively we can more clearly identify what we must do next and see the way forward.  We are capable of managing many complex things and can do anything we desire.  There isn’t anything we can’t accomplish if we keep moving forward.  Our abilities are limitless and we have everything necessary to succeed.

Every story has many moving parts and interpretations.  If we are given all the information we need at the beginning of any task we have a better chance of completing it.  But often we only get some of the facts and additional information comes forward as we move along.  Although we may be grateful for the new details as they arise, they may cause us to change our direction completely which will cost additional time.  The best we can do is move forward with the information we have and when new developments arise do our best to modify our course as effectively as possible.

Nothing ever goes the way we think it will.  There will always be surprise developments or complications we didn’t plan for.  There are countless ways things that can go awry and when we encounter them we may struggle to discern what to do next.  There isn’t a destination we can’t reach.  We may need to revise and regroup, sometimes more than once, but with determination we can find the way forward.  There isn’t a goal too difficult to reach.  We can do anything we set out to do, be confident of success, and accomplish what is needed to achieve it.

Today if you’re under time pressure to complete a task and it seems impossible to reach, step back for a moment and look at how far you’ve come already.  The goal is only steps away.  Plan your way forward and keep your eyes on the destination.  You are strong and capable, and nothing is beyond your grasp.  Everything you desire is possible and you will reach it.

Accomplished

6 Nov

We meet all kinds of people as we go through our lives.  Some of them share common traits with us and others are very different.  We all define success in unique ways and accomplish many different things as we navigate forward.  Sometimes if we meet new people who have achieved great and impressive goals we may feel our lives are small in comparison.  We may look at ourselves compared to them and believe we haven’t done enough or our contributions are in some way less valuable.  None of us will have identical experiences and we all move in different ways on the roads we have chosen.  When we see the success others have achieved we may think our successes aren’t as important or are somehow beneath them.  It’s easy to believe we haven’t done enough when we compare ourselves to others we admire but every achievement no matter how small has value.  Every single step we take forward is an important success.  If we’re on the road we want to be on and headed in the direction we want to go we are successful.  The world’s ideas of success mean nothing.  We define our personal success by the standards we set for ourselves.  Maybe we haven’t published a book, run a marathon, or built a corporation.  But if what we’ve done has brought us satisfaction and happiness, we are successful.  Nothing can compare to the joy we find when we accomplish something we truly desire, no matter if others notice or not.  We are defined by our own standards.  Our lives are valuable and important and our contributions count.  Everything we do makes an impact and we are an integral part of the world around us.

Fame and fortune are big and spectacular.  We see it splashed across headlines, the covers of magazines and those who enjoy it get a lot of attention.  If we get caught up in what others think we should achieve and aren’t on those roads, we may believe we are failures.  If we haven’t earned a lot of money, or done anything sensational and noteworthy to those around us, we might think our lives are inconsequential and meaningless.  But every life has value.  Every one of us plays a role in the history of the world.  Every decision we make brings a result that affects the situation around us.  We fill an emptiness the world would experience without us.

We define our lives and design them in ways that bring us happiness and satisfaction.  What we value may not be what others find important.  Our goals are unique to what we want to accomplish.  We need not define our personal success by the parameters the world sets.  Our happiness is achieved when we do what is most important to us and takes us where we want to go.  The world belongs to us and we may define it according to our unique standards and desires.

Today if you’ve been comparing yourself to the successes of those around you and feel you haven’t accomplished enough, remember your life is yours to define.  You decide what your personal success looks like.  You are important and the world needs your influence.  Be yourself and be confident.  You have so much to offer and we’re all lucky you’re here.

Auto Pilot

30 Aug

Often our lives are very busy and we have lots of things to get done.  We might have a list of tasks to accomplish or be in situations where there are constant developments that need our attention.  When we’re working hard moving forward and accomplishing things we may step into a sort of auto pilot role.  We may finish one thing and then immediately begin the next without much thought.  If we aren’t paying attention to what’s going on we may make mistakes and take turns that bring complications and problems.  We can’t go back in time and if we create an issue that complicates our way forward we will have to solve it before we can continue.  The time spent correcting our course and cleaning up a mess cannot be recaptured.  Auto pilot is great when there are parameters set up to allow things to go well but in our lives if we don’t pay attention we may falter and stumble.  Even when we’re busy and pressed to accomplish much we can step back for a moment to ensure we plan our next steps effectively.  The old saying that “haste makes waste” can apply.  We don’t have to hurry to be successful.  We can be wise and careful, and still accomplish everything we set out to do.

Some people are great planners.  They may have several calendars to post their projects and tasks on, electronic reminders to alert them when something is due, or composed daily schedules that allocate time for each endeavor.  Planning is great and is a useful tool but planning is just a way to organize our tasks and doesn’t allow for unforeseen complications.  Nothing is set in stone and often things happen that impact even the best designed plans.  When complications arise, as they inevitably will, we can adapt to the changes and modify our course going forward to complete the task.  Change is constant and being willing to adjust our trajectory will allow us to address our needs and find success.

Life is unpredictable and sometimes something we want to accomplish isn’t possible now.  Perhaps the timing is wrong, or others who need to be involved are otherwise occupied, or we don’t have all the information to proceed.  There are few times in life when we are subject to unchangeable deadlines.  If we need to set something aside for now, we can.  It doesn’t mean we’ll never get it done, it just means we plan to accomplish it at a later time.  Being willing to adjust our timeframes and continue forward will help us complete all the tasks we desire and continue forward with success.  We can be flexible and change our parameters whenever we need to.  Things will change and the opportunity to complete every task will arise.  When it does we’ll be ready and able to move forward.

Today if you’ve got a lot to accomplish and you’re rushing from one item to the next, take a moment to think about how you want to proceed.  You are capable of doing great things and accomplishing much.  Give yourself time to plan your next step forward and be confident and aware.  You can do anything and do it well.  Success is always there for you and you will gain it.

It’s About Time

24 Aug

We often have many things to accomplish with our time and if we are overloaded we may dovetail items in an effort to get everything done.  Although we call this multi-tasking, current research indicates it’s impossible for us to concentrate on more than one thing at a time.  If we crunch everything together and push through them all at once we might get them done but we will never be able to pay attention to all the details needed to get everything done well.  When we’re pressed and feel pressure to finish projects we may believe we have no choice but to do them all at once.  Getting many things done is helpful when there is a lot to do but if we have to go back and fix things because we didn’t do them well the first time it may take more time in the end than if we had waited until we could do them right.  There is a balance between doing things and doing them well.  We live in an immediate gratification world.  Everyone seems to want everything right now and it can be hard to keep up.  We can acknowledge our abilities and recognize time constraints, and then make a plan that will allow us to move forward while still giving us the time we need to be successful.  No matter how much there is to do, we are in control of how we proceed.  We can be thoughtful and wise, and move forward effectively by carefully assessing what we need to do and the best way to get it done.  Success is always there for us.  We have everything we need to handle even very stressful situations and find the best way through.

Some people are very impatient.  When they want something done, they want it done immediately.  If they are powerful and task us with a project we may feel the need to drop everything else to address their request.  That may work sometimes but all our projects are important and if we stop in the middle of something to start another task we may lose our focus and momentum.  When we return to the first task we may have to start all over to find our way through.  Going backward will never take us forward.  Even if someone asks us to do something right away, we can decide where our priorities lie and make the best decision to manage everything.

We all want to be helpful when others ask us for assistance.  If we always agree to do everything we’re asked to do we may find our lives are filled with the needs of others and little time to live for ourselves.  If we are encompassed with chores and tasks we will likely burn out and feel frustrated.  We are in control of our lives and we never have to do more than we are comfortable with.  We can say no when we need to.  Our time is ours to manage and we can handle it in ways that bring us joy and happiness.

Today if you’re overwhelmed with everything you must accomplish, make a plan to get the most important tasks completed.  Be sure to schedule time for yourself to take a break and refresh.  You are capable and strong and can do anything you choose.  Remember how important you are and plan your time in ways that bring you confidence and joy.  There isn’t anything you can’t do and do well.  Take it step by step and you’ll succeed.

Planning to Fail

3 Aug

There are a lot of things we want to do and we may think about how our lives would look if all our dreams came true. We can achieve anything we desire but first we must define what is needed to gain success and then we must be willing to do everything required. Even if we want something badly, there may be times we make decisions that keep us from succeeding. For example, if we want to lose weight but continue to overeat, or we want to be successful in our careers but do only enough to get by, or we want to be physically strong but refuse to exercise. If we don’t do the things needed to succeed we are in essence planning to fail. Success is always available but it won’t come to us simply because we want it badly. We must determine what it takes to achieve it and then we must do it. We can bemoan our lot in life, complain about missed opportunities and feel we’ve been cheated because the life we want the most hasn’t been achieved. We may feel better having a personal pity session but it won’t move us closer to where we want to go. No matter what has passed already there are countless opportunities now we can embrace and pursue to get where we want to go. We never have to stay where we are. We can plan to succeed and move forward with confidence by deciding exactly what we want and then doing what is needed to get it. We are in control of our lives and can do anything we choose. We can be as successful as we desire. There isn’t anything we can’t accomplish. We can plan to succeed and we can win.

It’s easy to envy others’ successes. When we see those who have achieved goals we desire we may think it was easier for them than it is for us or they somehow found a secret we haven’t yet discovered. We can’t see the years of struggle they may have had to endure or the many failures they had to crawl out from under to keep going. We don’t know what kinds of disappointments they faced or how many times they had to start again. We only see their success. Few successes come without work. We can achieve anything we desire but we must be willing to work for it.

It’s a true axiom that we always do what we want to do most. We may argue that sometimes we don’t have a choice but in reality, we always choose what we will do. Even if there are pressures from those around us to comply with their decisions, we can always go our own way. We don’t have to have to go along to keep the peace, we don’t have to do what is expected, and we don’t have to fit in. We can live our lives any way we choose. Our successes are choices we make and we can achieve anything we desire.

Today if you’ve been wanting to succeed at something but have made choices that have prevented you from moving forward, set your sites on the goal and plan to achieve it. Do what is needed to create the life you want the most. This is your time and you deserve every success. Plan to succeed and then do what is needed to make it happen. Nothing can stop you and you will win.

Setting it Back

10 Jul

As we direct our lives forward sometimes we suffer setbacks that move us backward or hold us in place.  They may involve others who have a different idea of what we should be doing or unforeseen circumstances or developments that stop us in our tracks.  Setbacks are never in our plans and when they happen all we may see is the time we’re losing as we try to correct our course.  It’s irritating when something stands in our way going forward but setbacks are not just complications.  They are also opportunities to stop and review the plans we’ve made and look at options going forward.  Every problem brings with it an opportunity to learn.  If we maximize those opportunities and learn as much as possible we will find the way forward and carry with us all the information we gain.  No matter how much we know about anything we can’t know everything.  A setback is merely a pause in our progress that gives us time to look again.  While we’re standing still we can review our plans and explore new options.  We may find a different perspective that opens new arenas we had not previously considered.  There isn’t anything that can stop us from reaching our goals.  No matter what detours or diversions arise we can find the way to success.

Big plans often have many moving parts.  We may need to fully accomplish one step before we can move to the next.  If it takes a long time or the journey is complicated and difficult we may tire of the struggle and get burned out.  If we need a break we can take one.  Sometimes stepping back for a short time and gaining a fresh view allows us to find ways to move forward more quickly and efficiently.  If we get mired down in our efforts we may develop tunnel vision only being able to see one road ahead.  But there are many roads that lead to every destination.  If we step back and set the goal aside for a moment we may more easily see other options available to us and find a clearer path going forward.

There is no required timeline for most of the goals we want to achieve.  We can set our own schedule and work around the other parameters of our lives.  If we must step away from a goal for a time in order to focus on more pressing situations we can set it back and then pick it up again when the time is right.  There is no need to pressure ourselves to accomplish anything too quickly.  We can make plans that fit into our lives without compromising the other responsibilities we must care for.  There really isn’t anything we can’t accomplish.  We are capable and wise and can move forward in exactly the best way.

Today if you’ve been pushing hard to reach a goal and have suffered a setback and are stuck, use the time to see the whole picture.  Let all the options present themselves and you’ll find the next step.  You are smarter than you think and there isn’t anything you can’t do.  Look around.  The road is there for you and you will find it.  Success is just ahead.

One Tiny Seed

29 Jun

Seeds are amazing things. They carry within them great possibilities for growth and impact on their surroundings. Even very tiny seeds can produce large plants capable of creating fruits or vegetables, or hundreds and hundreds of blooms. It’s incredible to see them in their perfect small form and imagine what they will become. Of course, seeds don’t produce anything unless they are planted, watered and protected. They will sit dormant and all their potential will wait until they find a place to sprout and grow. All our ideas, dreams and plans for the future are like tiny seeds. We think about them and hold them close but until we begin to put them into action and do what is needed to make them a reality they will sit dormant. It’s fun to imagine what our lives may become and to think about our dreams coming true. We can hold onto our seeds for as long as we like. We can tuck them away safely and keep them to ourselves. If we want them to become real we must bring them forward and take the first steps toward making them grow. We have all the tools we need to accomplish anything we desire. There isn’t a dream we can’t work toward or a goal we can’t achieve but first we have to plant the seeds to allow them to grow. We can be confident in our ability to succeed at any task and overcome any hurdle that stands in our way. There really isn’t anything too daunting or difficult for us to manage. We have all the courage we need to proceed. All we have to do is begin and all our dreams can become reality.

We can spend years imagining what could be and where we could go. Dreaming is wonderful and it helps us define what we really want, but dreaming is like blowing feathers in the wind. They are delightful to see as they float upward but eventually they settle and fade. Until we begin to make our dreams come true they will always be out of reach, something nice to think about but nothing we can hold onto. We can change our imaginings into reality and accomplish anything we truly desire. When we stop dreaming about what could be and begin doing what is needed to make our dreams come true everything will come to us.

Some people spend their entire lives hoping for things to happen. If they are unhappy they hope something will change their situation. If they are bored they hope someone will come along to bring them excitement. Hope springs eternal and we may be filled with it but if we really want to change it’s up to us to make it happen. Hope is not action and action is the only thing that moves us forward. We can do what is needed to change our lives, we can plant our seeds and make all our hopes and dreams come true.

Today if you’ve been holding tight to a dream you really want to come true, begin doing what is needed to make it real. You can do anything you want and achieve anything you desire. Take action and begin moving forward. There isn’t anything too far away for you to reach. All your dreams can come true. Today take the first step and you’ll achieve everything you desire.
