Swimming Laps in the Pool

25 Jan

A lot of people learn how to swim as kids. Maybe we went to the local YMCA for lessons, or our uncle just threw us in the water and told us to figure it out. However, we did it, we gained a valuable skill. Learning to swim is like riding a bike. Once you know how to do it, you don’t forget. If we know how to swim, we may be confident we could easily swim laps in a pool with no problem. The first day we go and jump in we may think it’ll be a snap – we’ll just start and be able to do several laps before we quit. But knowing how to do something and becoming proficient in it are two different things. Our first time in the water we may be surprised that although we know how to swim, actually getting to the other side of the pool is harder than it looks. It takes a lot of effort, and we may be gasping for air after going just a few feet. We may be stunned by what we can’t do. If we are determined and continue to spend time working on it, we will improve and be able to accomplish the goals we’ve set, but that won’t happen over night or in one week. It may take a lot of time before we feel comfortable and confident. The same is true with most goals we set. We may already possess many of the requirements to reach success, but they will still take time and effort to achieve. We can do anything we want and nothing is out of reach, but we must be willing to do what is necessary to make them ours. We are strong and powerful, and we know what we want. By planning carefully, and then doing the work, we can reach any destination.

It isn’t hard to climb a mountain. You just have to put one foot in front of the other until you reach the top. Sounds simple right? But there lots of factors that make it harder than it seems. Although we’re essentially just walking, it’s all uphill which is far harder than walking on a flat surface. Then there are weather factors. If it’s a very high mountain, it will likely be cold and involve snow and ice. There may even be breathing issues due to high altitude. Although it seems simple in theory, actually climbing a mountain is not easy. When we begin toward any goal, there is no way to know what complications will get in our way. By keeping our eyes focused ahead and unraveling each problem that arises, if we’re determined, we will succeed.

Everyone admires successful people. They seem to have everything figured out and know what to do. What we don’t see is all the time and trouble they went through to get to success. Nobody pays attention when we’re just starting out, or when the bank turns down our loan, and we are just making ends meet. Nobody sees all the problems, and complications, and headaches that come because we refuse to give up. Success isn’t always easy, but if we keep our eyes on the prize, no matter what gets in the way, we will reach the top and find great satisfaction.

Today if there is a goal you want that’s more difficult than you imagined, decide how you want to proceed. You are smarter and stronger than you think you are, and if you want success, you can have it. Look at the road ahead and plan your next steps. There isn’t anything too difficult for you to overcome or too hard for you to understand. Be confident and trust yourself. The whole world is there for you and every success awaits.

Behind the Scenes

6 Dec

Our lives are complex and filled with endless decisions. Every day brings something new and whatever we choose will bring some kind of result. If we’re intent on staying the course moving ahead, and make choices that push us forward, we’ll continue to advance. But there are few times when everything is black or white and easy to see. Many times our decisions may be influenced by what’s happening around us, how we feel, who’s involved and dozens of other factors. Although we may try to be honest in all our dealings, we may face a time when we decide to step off center and do something behind the scenes that will make the road easier. Maybe we fabricate a story that makes us look better, or we bribe someone to say or do something that opens a door we want to go through. Our ethical standards and choices tell the world and those around us who we are. If we fall prey to situational ethics – meaning the situation instead of our standards decide what we’ll do – we may open all kinds of new risks to our project, ourselves, and our integrity. If the goal is very important, we may think it’s worth the tradeoff when we start, but there is no way to see the end or any road from the beginning. One left turn may take us completely off course, or bring more trouble and discord than we expect. It’s not always easy to make the best choices, and sometimes doing something less than honest that appears to pave the way ahead looks very appealing. We must decide what we want the most. Is the goal really worth selling out to get it? Will the reward be worth the cost? Only we can make these decisions, but one thing is certain. When we choose the first step on any path, we are also choosing the last. Choosing the roads that will take us to the destinations we most desire and enhance our credibility and true character will always bring success. We have greatness inside us, and with wisdom and clarity, we can share it with the world.

There are lots of people willing to do whatever it takes to reach a goal. They will manipulate, lie, steal, coerce, whatever is needed to make it happen. They don’t care who they hurt or how much damage they do. Their devious and unethical behaviors may bring them great success, and lots of money, but none of it will augment their character or make them better people. It’s easy to cheat and manipulate to get our way, but nothing can compare to the nobility of true honesty and integrity.

Our lives are ours to design and we can do anything we like. If we don’t care about ethics or morality, there will be lots of opportunities to get what we want without them. However, true happiness comes when we choose what we know is best and hold fast to our personal standards. Not every destination will be easy to reach, but by keeping our eyes on the goal and continuing forward, we can go anywhere and do anything. Nothing is out of reach and every success is possible.

Today if there’s a chance to do something untoward that will make your journey easier, think carefully about the person you most want to be. You have so much to offer and all the wisdom and intelligence you need to accomplish anything you desire. Trust yourself. There isn’t anything too difficult for you. You are amazing and capable, and have everything you need to succeed. Show us your best, and be confident. There is great success just ahead, and you will reach it.

Without Exception

26 Oct

There are few absolutes in life. No matter where we are or what we’re doing there will always be a lot of variables and differences. Even if we stay in the same place and do the same things, our experiences will never be exactly the same. There are endless things that affect every decision and every move we make. We can’t control what others do or what goes on in the world, but we always have control over ourselves. Our choices belong solely to us. If we are careless and haphazard, and don’t pay attention to the cues and situations around us, odds are we’ll have some unpredictable and uncomfortable experiences. Who we are is defined by what we do, and we can set any standards we like for our own behavior. For instance, we may determine that we will never break the law, rob a bank, kill someone or cheat on our taxes. Those are big problems that would likely bring intensely unpleasant ramifications. But what about the choices that aren’t so extreme. If we want to be honest, will we decide that no matter what, without exception we will always be honest in all our dealings? It sounds straightforward enough, but life is complex and there are lots of situations around us that may make that decision more difficult than we imagine. How will we handle it if we discover we were given too much change at the store, or the checker only charges us for one mango when in fact there were two, or we have the chance to sneak into a theater or concert without paying or being seen? We may excuse these as small and insignificant, but there is no sliding scale for honesty. How we interpret that is up to us. We may do whatever we like, but at the end of the day, our lives will be a reflection of the choices we make. We know what we want and how we want to live our lives. By being true to the standards we set for ourselves, we will find great satisfaction and happiness. There isn’t anything we can’t do once we decide. Every choice is possible and with wisdom and clarity, we can choose the roads that take us where we most want to go.

Peer pressure isn’t just limited to our teen years. Wherever there are others around us we may experience pressure to be like something or do something. Everyone has their own ideas about how things should go and their own interpretation of what is acceptable. We may be pressed to follow the group even if we disagree, but we never have to do anything we don’t want to do. If we’re uncomfortable we can step back and go in a different direction. Those who respect us will honor our decisions. Our lives are ours to design, and we can do anything we like.

As time passes, cultures change, but no matter what those changes are, truth will always remain. The influences around us may be great, but we can take our time and evaluate what is happening and where it will lead. We are strong enough and smart enough to find the best way forward. We don’t have to follow the crowd to reach success. It is there, waiting for us to make the choices that will take us to it.

Today decide what kind of life you want to lead and determine where you want to go. Look at every option before you and choose the road that will take you to the goal. You have everything you need to achieve great success. Trust yourself and be true. Every destination is there for you, and you will reach them all.

Making It Clear

12 Oct

Life is complex and since we can’t read the future, we never know what’s coming next. When we’re making our decisions, we may base them on the current circumstances, or where we believe they’ll take us, or a thousand other reasons. If we are unsure about the future, or afraid of something happening that upsets our lives we may choose what looks like the safest option. Everyone wants to be safe, but there will always be more than one possibility, and if we only look at the easiest or most comfortable road, we may not make the best decisions. There is risk in everything, and even if we do all we can to prevent problems, they will still arise. Making decisions based only on protecting ourselves may not take us where we most want to go. Before we decide, we can take a moment to think about our reasons for the choice we’re making. By clarifying why we’re going one way or another, we will understand what our real goal is. Do we really want to head toward that destination, or are we only going that way because we know the road and it’s easy to travel? By being honest with ourselves, we’ll be able to decide what we really want and then proceed with confidence. We can go through our lives just doing the next thing without thinking, and following along whatever paved road is in front of us, and we will end up somewhere.  But if we want the lives we desire most, we must decide on each goal, and then move forward to reach it. Everything is possible and we are certainly capable of achieving anything we desire. We are brave enough and wise enough to reach any destination, and with clarity and determination, nothing can keep us from success.

Change is constant and nothing is permanent. The road ahead may be clear when we begin a journey, but we can’t see beyond the next turn. We may face detours and roadblocks that snag our progress and prevent us from moving forward. Complications will undoubtedly come, and issues will arise. People may get in our way and the sky may darken. No matter what goes wrong, there will always be a way out and another road to take. With patience and clarity, we can untangle any problem, and continue forward.

If we’re headed toward a destination and our situation changes, we may decide we want something different. We don’t have to continue on the same road if our desires have changed. We can take everything we’ve learned so far with us and go in another direction. Every experience has value and nothing is wasted. We know who we are and what we want, and by keeping our eyes focused ahead, we can go where we want, and achieve any goal.

Today think about what you really want. You never have to stay in the same place and every option is possible. Decide where you want to go and how you want to proceed, and then take the first step. You are amazing and more powerful than you realize. Nothing is too difficult for you to manage, and every dream is possible. Trust yourself and be confident. The whole world is there for you and you will succeed.

Our Journey

6 Sep

There are billions of people on the earth and each is individual and unique. We all have ideas about how things should go and what we want to do. Our personal journeys are ours to determine and design. There are endless possibilities and we can do anything we like and go anywhere we want. The future awaits and once we decide how we want to proceed, we can step on any road we choose and move forward. It would be great if others agreed with our choices, and that will likely happen at some point. But our lives belong to us and we don’t need agreement or approval to move in any direction we desire. Nobody knows us better than we know ourselves, and nobody else needs to understand our journey. All families and groups have traditions, and it’s easier when everyone goes along with what’s always been done, but we aren’t responsible for making life easy for those around us. There may be pressure to conform, but we are responsible for our own lives, and no matter what others think or prefer, can go our own way. The world is a big place filled with opportunities. Each choice we make will take us somewhere, and if we choose what we want the most, we will find great happiness and satisfaction. By trusting ourselves, and stepping forward toward the goals we most desire, every dream is possible. We know who we are and what we want, and with clarity and determination, will reach every success.

Sometimes when there are a lot of choices possible, it’s difficult to decide on one. Everything has its benefits and drawbacks, and before we can make a decision, we must first decide what we want to accomplish. Just going from one thing to another, trying this and that, is fine if we just want to superficially experience a lot of different things. But if we want to be successful at actually achieving a goal, we must choose the destination and then do what is necessary to make it ours. There will always be unforeseen complications and snags along the way, but they don’t mean we cannot succeed. We are intelligent and capable, and with determination can achieve anything we desire.

Nobody can see the future or know what will happen next. Once we begin toward a goal we may discover that the road to reaching it is far harder and will take far longer than we thought. If it’s too complex for us to manage right now, we can set it aside until we get more information or our situation changes. There is no rush to reach success, and once we’re ready to start again, we can move forward one step at a time, untangling complications as we go, and with faith and determination, reach the goal.

Today decide what you want and how you want to proceed. The journey ahead is yours to determine, and nothing is out of reach. You don’t need to explain your choice or get approval before you begin. Every destination is possible and nothing can keep you from success. Choose the road forward, and take the first step. Nothing can keep you from success. You are wiser and stronger than you imagine, and you will win.
