Incremental

1 Dec

Life is filled with challenges and new experiences. Every day may bring something we haven’t seen or heard before. We never know what will happen next. If we’re timid and feel unsure, we may try to avoid anything we aren’t familiar with. We can try to restrict our contact with others, and keep the exact same routine, hoping to protect ourselves from new developments and difficult situations. Restrictions may keep us from some situations but may also prevent us from achieving our goals. Limiting access in one area may end up limiting our access in others we need to reach success. If we want rich, fulfilling lives, we must be willing to face trouble and complications as they arise. Hiding out will never help us become the person we most want to be. Difficult issues will come, and the road may get complicated and twisted. We might have to face a whole myriad of problems, but we don’t have to face them all at once. We can take things slowly, and unravel the knots one at a time. We may not be able to solve everything at first, but as each issue is settled we’ll move closer to success. It may take a lot of time, and the changes may be incrementally small at first, but even tiny advances move us toward the goal. Small victories count. By moving forward line by line, and step by step, we will reach the destination. If we get stuck, we can step back and look at everything objectively. The answers we need will always be there for us, and with persistence and patience, we’ll find them. Every success is possible. If we keep moving forward, nothing can keep us from any goal we desire. We are strong and wise, and can be confident we will prevail.

Big, splashy successes are impressive. We all notice when someone accomplishes something huge that positively impacts everyone around them. But not all important accomplishments are broadcasted for everyone to see. We have private victories that may seem small in the overall scope of life, but that change our lives in positive and helpful ways. Each tiny success is important, and by building on them as we move forward, we will accomplish everything we desire.

Every change we make that moves us closer to our goals helps us reach success. If we want to be stronger, we don’t have to train for an Iron Man competition. We could just start exercising a little more each day. If we want to learn to cook, we don’t have to go to culinary school. We could just start reading a cookbook and try something easy. Incremental changes may seem insignificant, but each accomplishment, no matter how small, moves us toward success. We don’t have to start out being the ocean. We can begin as one drop of water, and move forward with confidence we will succeed.

Today if there’s something you want to accomplish but it looks too big and difficult, take one small step forward. Do one thing that moves you closer to the goal. Tomorrow, do another, and before long you’ll be well on your way to success. You are smarter and more powerful than you realize. Nothing is out of reach. You can do anything and go anywhere. Be confident. All your dreams are there for you, and you can make them come true.

Can’t Do It

25 Nov

Not everything in life comes easily. We will all face moments when there is something we must do we are sure we cannot accomplish. The barriers in front of us may be huge and daunting, or the situation may be so complex and difficult we have no idea how to proceed. At times like that, we must decide if we’re going to confidently push forward despite our doubts, or cut and run in the other direction, leaving the entire mess for someone else to take care of. If the situation is extreme, running away may be very appealing, but backing away from hard challenges gives us nothing in return. There is no return on investment in giving up. If we really feel we can’t do it, and can’t manage what’s before us, instead of surrendering, we can reach out for help from those around us. We all have different experiences and what’s unknown and overwhelming to us may be something someone else has already faced and knows how to overcome. Asking for help may give us the tools we need to find our way forward. Hard times will come to us all and there is great value and benefit to facing them head on and doing what is necessary to move through them. As we solve problems, we gain more information and greater skills to take forward with us. Life is full of obstacles and unforeseen developments that may stand in our way and muddy the road ahead. We are intelligent and capable, and strong enough and wise enough to face whatever comes. Nothing is too hard for us to manage, and with temerity and courage, we will find our way forward, no matter what’s lies ahead. Every single destination is possible, and nothing can keep us from success.

When hard times come, there may be some around us who will tell us we can’t succeed. They may believe the problem is too big, and too difficult for us to manage. Everyone has their own opinions and we can listen to whatever advice we’re given, but nobody knows us better than we know ourselves. All the answers we need will always be available in every situation. We may need to search for them, but they will rise, and we will prevail. We are more powerful than we realize and will find the way forward.

We may face a situation that is beyond our means. Perhaps it’s so big one person cannot accomplish it on their own, or it requires assets to solve we don’t possess. We can reach out to others for support and help, and with careful thought and determination, find the answers we need. No man is an island, and there will always be someone who can help when we get stuck. We can trust ourselves to handle any problem that arises, and be confident we will succeed, no matter what’s in the way.

Today if you’re facing an issue you are sure you cannot overcome, remember all the times you’ve prevailed in the past. You are amazing and capable, and already possess everything you need to succeed. Be confident and step forward. The answers are there for you and you will find them. Success will be yours, and your dreams will come true.

The Shore

6 Aug

If you’ve ever been out at sea, away from the shoreline on all sides, it’s nearly impossible to imagine where land is. Everywhere you look, all you can see is ocean. The enormity of the watery expanse is impressive, and although you can’t see it, you know there is land out there somewhere. If you are the one piloting the ship, you will undoubtedly rely on instruments to keep you on course, and get you to the destination. If you’re a passenger, you must rely on the captain to know what he’s doing. You must have faith that you will reach the shore.

Our lives can sometimes feel like we’re at sea and unable to find land. We can drift around searching, and feel lost. We may get confused trying to figure out which way is north, and which way will lead us home. Since there are no landmarks to guide us at sea, we may wait for night to fall, and try to navigate by the stars. The same is true in our lives. If we’re lost, we sometimes have to wait until things are at their darkest before we figure out which way to go. Like the stars in the sky, we have everything we need inside us to find our direction. And when we’re ready, the answer will be there to guide the way.

We can feel lost for a million different reasons. Perhaps there have been unexpected changes that have upset us, maybe we’re facing a serious personal issue that we haven’t quite figured out, or we’ve just decided we’re going the wrong way and have to change direction. Whatever is making us feel lost can be unsettling, and at times even frightening. It’s hard when we feel untethered, floating around with no anchor, drifting here and there without direction. But if we hold on, and keep paddling, if we remain calm despite the confusion and give ourselves time to think, we will find our way. And then inch by inch we can turn and correct our course. We will feel the tide beneath us taking us where we want to go, and we’ll catch the wind that will carry us there.

Today if you’re feeling lost, if you’re unsure about which way is right, give yourself time. Don’t panic or push. Let your mind rest, and the answers will come. You know what’s best for you. You know where you want to go. You will find your way. Nobody knows you better than you. You are the captain of the ship. Be still and you will feel the tide ready to guide you through. Let it lift you, and soon you’ll be exactly where you want to be.
