Moving In

31 Mar

Sometimes the bottom falls out of our plans, the road we’re on suddenly turns to the left or a door we’re walking through abruptly slams in our faces.  There may be moments when everything changes at once in ways that upend us and our vision ahead is temporarily blocked.  When we face sudden and unexpected setbacks we may lose our composure, have a meltdown and come unglued.  Nobody is perfect and unforeseen immediate loss is hard to face.  When it happens it’s important to remember we are going through a difficult passage that is temporary.  We don’t have to move into the disaster and let it consume us or become a permanent scar that we continually pick at and obsess over.  Nothing in life is forever and tomorrow, no matter what we’re facing today, something will change.  No disaster lasts forever and we don’t have to pack up and move into sorrow.  We can navigate the problem even if it’s far reaching, reign in our emotions so we can think, and find a way to continue.  We can regain our composure and face whatever we must to move forward.  No life is without disappointment and no matter what happens it is not a permanent fixture.  We can step back, see everything objectively, take the time we need to readjust and grieve, and then we can begin again.  There will always be blessings ahead for us no matter where we are now.  We can find happiness and peace again as we continue on.

When we’re overcome with disappointment or sorrow it may be hard to see the road ahead.  But even when we can’t see it, it’s there for us.  There will always be a way forward no matter what has happened.  It may take time for us to recover from the setback and we can take it.  We can stand still to regroup and refocus.  We can breathe quietly until we are ready to begin again.  No matter when we step forward, there will be a road waiting.  We are always in control of our direction and what we want to do.  Nothing can stop us when we’re ready to move forward.

If something has completely changed the direction of our lives or has a lasting impact on what we can do going forward we can still find a way to happiness.  There are countless destinations and endless journeys we may travel.  We can change our way forward and find a new path.  There is nothing we can’t overcome or conquer.  We can determine that no matter what we will find our way.  Happiness is a gift we give to ourselves.  We deserve every happiness and we can have it no matter what comes to us.

Today if you’re facing a huge roadblock and everything you thought was real has suddenly changed, take a moment to step back and give yourself time to think.  There is a road ahead for you that will lead you to happiness.  You deserve the best of everything.  You can overcome any problem or complication and succeed.  Revise your journey forward and begin again.  Nothing can stop you and you will win.

Mountains Ahead

22 Mar

Every life is filled with challenges and opportunities.  No matter what we accomplish there will always be another mountain ahead waiting for us to climb and as long as we live we will have challenges to overcome.  While we’re busy learning all we can from every experience and trying hard to succeed we may become so focused on the task ahead that our behavior with those around us may suffer.  It’s great to be determined and self-directed but as we travel forward if we cut off those around us and brush them away as we plow ahead we may lose connections we might need in the future.  We may need assistance to overcome an obstacle and if we’ve pushed the person with the answers away in the past they may not be interested in helping us.  Being aware and kind to those around us no matter how focused and busy we are will always be a benefit to us.  Even if we never need their help in the future, the bridges we build by our consideration and respect will be a great support in all our endeavors.  Embracing the friendship of those around us, building relationships and letting others into our lives will be a great benefit and blessing.  We all have so much to offer and even when we’re pushing for success we can share our gifts and allow others to share theirs with us.

In our lives as we travel from one point to the next there will be times when something gets in the way and stops our progress.  Even if what we’re doing is very important if there is a barricade in our path we will not be able to go forward until we find a way around it.  If others have been in the same position they may have valuable information that will help us.  We can be open to asking for help and then listening and taking good advice.  We don’t have to do everything ourselves to be successful and relying on others from time to time is an asset we may draw on.

Sometimes we may believe we are the only ones who know exactly what we need to do and how we need to do it.  It’s good to be confident in our abilities but no matter what we know there will likely be someone else who knows a little more.  If we are receptive to listening when they offer us information and take the time to carefully evaluate their advice we may find an easier way forward than relying solely on our own resources.  Everybody has unique gifts to offer.  Being open to receiving them and allowing new ideas to enter our plans often helps us achieve our goals more efficiently.  We can be confident in our own abilities and still allow the ideas of others to embellish our plans.

Today if you’ve been pushing hard to get to a goal you want to achieve and have brushed past others along the way, remember you can’t know everything.  Others have ideas you haven’t yet considered and allowing them into your life and listening to their advice may give you the boost you’ve been seeking.  You can do anything but you don’t have to do everything alone.  You can listen and see things in new ways and as you do you will build bridges that will help you get to the goal.  Success is always there for you.  Allowing others to join you along the way will help you find it.

Shooting the Moon

9 Feb

We all have goals we want to achieve and in our zeal to accomplish them we might make plans that very aggressive and challenging. We may decide we’ll make great changes overnight in order to achieve something quickly that often takes time. It’s good to have lofty goals and creating a plan that’s workable will help us find success more easily than one that’s extreme. For instance, if we seek personal wealth we may decide we’re going to work hard and in a year double our salary. If we want to change our fitness level, we may plan to go to the gym for two hours every single day. Or if we want to improve our diets we may swear off all sweets – forever. While these plans are certainly impressive we may not be able to adhere to them simply because of the intense changes needed to make them work. Finding the right method of accomplishing our goals is the first step. We can shoot for the moon and hope we make it, or we can determine what we can reasonably do each day to move us closer and make a plan we can more easily adapt to. Change never happens overnight. The important thing is to arrive at the destination, not how fast we get there.

Every small step forward we keep is a victory. We don’t have to change 100% right away and each step forward takes us closer to the goal. Even small advances are victories and if we are consistent will bring us success. If we only advanced a quarter of a percent each day we tried, and then only tried half the time, in a year we will have advanced almost half way to the goal. Small steps move us forward and each time we step forward our confidence will rise. Aiming too high too quickly often ends in failure. If we push too hard it may be difficult to accomplish the task. Understanding change and not speed is the goal will help us be more successful.

There may be times we feel we should have come further than we have in the time we’ve been pressing forward. We may feel we should have been able to get more done, or become more masterful at something. When we’re starting a new goal, or beginning a new behavior it’s impossible to know all the changes we’ll have to make to incorporate it successfully into our lives. We can imagine some of the work we’ll have to do but until we’re actually in the process of making the change we can’t see everything. While we’re striving to achieve, we can keep our eyes focused on making small adjustments that will move us forward. We can determine to continue despite any setbacks and if we don’t stop we will reach the goal. Life is long enough for us to accomplish anything. Step by step, making small successful moves will get us to every goal we desire. We have everything we need to succeed and there isn’t anything too difficult for us to achieve.

Today if you feel frustrated that you haven’t yet reached your goal, look back and see how far you’ve come already. Every step you take gets you closer to where you want to be. Continue forward. You know where you want to go and you have everything you need to get there. Move the dial a little closer today and tomorrow do the same. You’ll reach the goal and find success.

Clean Paper

2 Feb

Our lives reflect everything we experience as time passes.  We aren’t perfect and sometimes we do things that don’t work out or make a mistake that affects us or others.  When we’re carrying around the results of a negative experience it’s sometimes hard to get a fresh perspective and feel we can begin again.  But every single day is a new beginning like taking a clean sheet of paper with nothing written on it and starting a new story.  There may be some writing in the margins where we have things we need to work out or finish, but the main page is blank and ready for us to start anew.  Researchers say we make about 35,000 decisions each day.  With so many options the stories we can write are limitless.  We are never constrained or restricted by anything but our own choices.  There may be pressure from those around us to go one way or another and there may be restraints on our time, but ultimately we decide what we will do.  No matter what has happened in the past we have a new piece of paper to write on each day, and we can be confident in writing the story we want most.  Today we can write it any way we like, and tomorrow we can start again.  Life is all about our experiences and we can determine what many of them will be and where they will take us.

Although we all know our lives belong to us, there may be times when we allow the pressures of those around us or situations to control what we do.  We may go along and travel down a road we don’t want because someone we care about thinks it’s best for us.  Or in an effort to face a difficult situation, we might choose an option that takes us away from where we want to go in order to solve a complicated issue.  We can do whatever we want but each time we trade what we want most for something else we lose some control over our future.  We have the power to live our lives in ways that make us truly happy but that requires us to make choices that create happiness.  If we give our lives away, others will take them.  We deserve to determine where we’ll go and what we’ll do.  We have everything we need to create the lives we really want and when we do, happiness will follow.

There may be times when we feel we need to trade something we want for something else in order to keep the peace, or to get along, or change a situation that isn’t working.  If we make the trade, we must accept where the decision takes us.  However, no road is permanent and we can always change our course.  We can make decisions well and if we’re headed to a destination we don’t want, we can reroute our way forward.  We have a new piece of paper every single day.  We can start a new path and change our story until it fits us perfectly.

Today if you’ve been carrying around the remains of a negative situation and it’s holding you back, leave it behind in yesterday’s story.  You have a new day you may design any way you want.  You have so much to offer.  You know the road you want to travel and it’s perfect for you.  Choose your way forward and let your story reflect who you really are.

Cut and Paste

20 Jan

Life brings us all kinds of experiences.  Whether they are good or bad depends on what’s happening and where we are.  We learn something new with everything we experience and decide as we move forward what we’ll take with us.  We don’t have to carry everything along as we go and can cut the things we don’t want.  If we experience something that won’t benefit us we can simply leave it behind.  However, if we learn something that helps us get to our goals we can hold onto it and incorporate it going forward. The trick is to accurately discern between the two.  Sometimes there may be things we’ll want to forget, especially if there are moments we don’t feel we did our best, but there will be other things we learned that strengthen us and give us additional courage.  We can hold onto new behaviors that help us or make us more confident.  As each challenge comes and goes, if we’re careful and pay attention, we will find things to take with us that enrich us and deepen our understanding.  Life is a great educator.  There really isn’t anything we’ll go through that won’t teach us something and no matter how much we’ve learned, there will always be more waiting for us.  Learning to cut and paste the things we experience will help us get the most out of each lesson and move us forward more effectively.  We are capable of changing and learning many things and as we travel through our journey can find our way to where we most want to be.

Some experiences stick to us because of their intensity or difficulty.  If the experience was very painful, even after it changes we may have trouble letting go and moving on. If the process created a permanent change in our lives or our relationships have been affected, we may grieve for what has been lost and it may be difficult to find our footing again.  If we’ve been hurt deeply we may need time to heal.  Even very good changes that are intense may take time to adjust to but we have everything we need to manage our lives well and no matter what happens we’ll find our way.

Life changes constantly and no matter how we may want things to stay the same, everything will eventually change.  If we are attached to keeping our lives in stasis, if we are intimidated by the process of change or are afraid of what the changes will bring, we may struggle to let go.  But we can cut what is no longer useful.  We can leave the baggage behind that we don’t need to carry.  We can let go of anything that is holding us back.  There is a long road ahead filled with promise and expectation and we can walk forward unencumbered by pain from the past.

Today if you’ve experienced something that has changed you in some way and you feel different than before, move forward with confidence.  You can let go of the things you no longer need, hold onto to what is helpful, and find success.  You’ve learned so much already and you know where you want to go.  You are courageous and wise enough to create a brilliant future filled with happiness.
