Grounded

9 Jun

We can do a lot of things well and accomplish many goals throughout our lives.  When we have sufficient determination and time we can generally get to most desired destinations.  But sometimes we may try to accomplish something and no matter what we do can’t seem to move forward.  When we struggle and push and still can’t get ahead it’s very frustrating.  Life is complicated and we don’t always know everything when we begin a journey.  If we truly cannot achieve what we’ve set out to do right now it doesn’t mean we have failed.  We can look at the situation objectively, see what the problem is and then revise our plans.  We may need additional information or we may need to wait until we are in a different place in our lives.  Although it’s important to try our best to reach our goals, there is no value in trying over and over again to accomplish something that cannot be accomplished right now.  Recognizing limits is important.  If we simply cannot move forward no matter what we’ve tried the timing may be wrong or we may need to wait until our circumstances have changed.  If the destination is out of reach now we can set it aside and do other things and try again later.  All planes get grounded from time to time.  Once we see what is needed to move forward we may begin again.  We don’t have to stay grounded forever.  We have everything we need to be successful and continue forward.

We only have control over our personal decisions and what we do.  Sometimes when we’re trying to accomplish something and others are involved, their decisions may derail us and push us off track.  If we must have the agreement of others to move forward and that is not forthcoming we may be stopped in our tracks and unable to progress.  If we can’t bring them into agreement we may need to find a way around them to continue forward.  If that isn’t possible it may be necessary to set the goal aside until things change.  Life is fluid and ever changing and in time our circumstances will adjust and we’ll be able to start again.

Unpredictable complications are always a factor.  We can’t know what we don’t know and sometimes there is more to the story than we are aware when we start out.  Others may keep facts from us, things may develop that stop our progress or our lives may change in such a way that we can’t continue forward at this time.  When those things happen we can revise our plans to accommodate whatever has happened and decide how we want to proceed.  We can wait if we need to and do other things until our situation changes.  Life is long and a road that is blocked today may well be clear in the days ahead.  We can prepare for the future and be ready when the time is right to start again.

Today if you’ve been working hard on accomplishing something and no matter what you do can’t move forward, stop and look at the situation openly and completely.  Revise you plans if you need to and if the timing is wrong, set the goal aside and work on other things.  Be patient and continue forward.  Although you may have to wait, eventually everything you desire will come.

Making the Cut

22 May

When we’re trying to move forward to accomplish something we really want to achieve we may face many obstacles.  As they come, others may say we aren’t smart enough, strong enough, wise enough or frankly just not good enough to get through.  When we don’t move forward the way we think we should we may feel they are right.  We can push forward toward any dream we want but there may be times when things stand in our way.  We never know the whole story when we’re starting out.  There are few journeys without complications, detours, setbacks or problems.  If they are continuous we may feel we can’t do it, we can’t make the cut and get to the prize.  Life is filled with uncertainty.  Things change constantly.  People get involved who may complicate the road forward and we may tire of pressing through problems.  If we let the complications become personal we may believe we are failures and can’t win and if our confidence is compromised we may be convinced.  The way to a happy life is doing the things that mean the most to us.  We’ve proven again and again that we can achieve what we desire.  We can find our way around any problem we face and with enough determination we can achieve anything.  We always make the cut when we persevere.  We have everything we need to succeed and nothing can stop us from getting to the goal.

Some people aren’t interested in learning new things, don’t want to advance down the road and are content staying in the same place.  If we have someone like that in our lives they may discourage us from trying.  They may say it’s too hard and we should be happy where we are.  They may even try to do things to keep us from moving forward.  We can hear their advice and then do what is best for us.  We own our lives and are in control of where they go and what we do.  Taking control and doing what we want most will bring us happiness and satisfaction.

Some roads have a lot of bumps and detours.  The higher the hill the harder it is to climb.  If we are striving for greatness the path may be complicated and difficult but we can navigate it with persistence and patience.  There is no road that can’t be traveled.  We always have everything we need to succeed.  Each step we take forward will take us closer to the prize.  It doesn’t matter how hard it is to get there or how long it takes.  What matters is that we continue forward until we reach it.  We are more capable and stronger than we think we are and we can do anything we desire.  There is nothing out of reach.

Today if you’ve been pushing hard toward a goal you want to reach and it seems everything is standing in your way, keep looking ahead.  Focus on the path forward and continue moving closer to your destination.  Complications are there to show what doesn’t work and you will find your way.  Persevere and you will find success.  There isn’t anything you can’t do.  You are amazing, capable and strong, and worth more than you can imagine.  Keep going.  You will win.

Resolve

15 May

We make millions of decisions as we go through our lives.  When we have a big decision to make we may take our time to consider all the parameters of what will happen when we choose and give ourselves lots of space to think about which way we want to go.  We can take all the time we need, but sometimes as we’re moving along suddenly we know what we want to do.  We’ve passed a turning point and are suddenly and completely sure and firmly resolved on the way forward.  We may not know what turned the tide that brought the decision, we may not be aware of what happened or didn’t happen that decided the way forward but we are sure and unshakable in our conviction.  Suddenly the task is done and we are confident of where we want to go and what we want to do.  When that happens all our doubts fade quickly away and the road ahead becomes clear.  It’s very rewarding when we are sure of ourselves.  Others may still have concerns but if we’re confident they will mean nothing.  We know clearly what we want to do, we know with assurance where we want to go and nothing can change our minds.  Once the decision is made all that remains is to move forward toward the destination.

There are many roads and countless directions in our lives.  Some will say go one way, others will say go another.  There are influences and pressures on us all the time from those who care about us, those who want us to succeed and others who may want something else.  Like static on a radio the noise can be constant and distracting.  When we need to decide something important that static may get louder as others give us their opinions and advice, requested or volunteered.  We may become overwhelmed with all the information offered and get stuck trying to find the right way through.  If we take a step back and close the door for a time, if we allow ourselves to be quiet and listen to our own personal thoughts, all the inspiration and clarity we need will rise.  We already know what we want to do.  If we take a moment to let our minds rest the confidence we are seeking will come.

We are very intelligent and insightful about what we really want and need.  We know ourselves better than anyone else ever could.  We know where we want to go and we know what we need to get there.  Trusting our personal direction and judgment and allowing ourselves time to think and consider our options will allow us to choose the right road going forward.  We can suddenly be sure even if we’ve been confused for a time.  We can suddenly be confident even if we’ve been tremulous.  We have everything we need to succeed already.  Trusting our excellent ability to make good choices and then doing what is needed to make the destination come to us will bring us all the success we seek.

Today if you’ve suddenly decided you know the way forward and you are sure even if others doubt, trust in yourself.  You have everything you need to succeed.  Be confident.  There isn’t anything you can’t do.  You know what you want, you know what you need and you know where you want to go.

Bump Bump

12 May

When we’re trying to accomplish something important or get to a goal there are sometimes bumps along the way.  Even if we plan effectively and try to prepare for possible eventualities, there may be surprises that stop our progress.  When we first start out and come upon a snag we may navigate around it and keep going with confidence.  However, if we’ve been working to move forward for a while and we keep running into problems again and again, we may begin to feel the goal is unattainable.  One bump is easily overcome but if the road is continually difficult and there are a lot of things in our way we may start to re-think our ability to succeed.  Every road has construction from time to time and there will always be things we don’t expect and can’t control.  If we are determined we will more easily be able to get through but each compromise and each problem takes a toll.  As time passes if we don’t see any progress we may begin to feel defeated and think about giving up.  We can always change our course if the original plan isn’t workable and we can choose to let go of any goal we set.  But if we really want to achieve the things we desire, stopping and quitting will never get us there.  Instead we might stop and revise our plan forward, or we may set the goal aside and try again later.  Sometimes success is all about timing.  We don’t always know our timing isn’t right when we begin and we get more information as we move forward.  There is no need to rush to accomplish our goals.  We can let them go for a time and when things change and we’re in a different place we can try again.

We learn a lot as we go through difficult times.  As we overcome problems and complications we gain skills that help us going forward.  We learn more about our situation and what is needed to continue on.  We can’t read the future and as things develop we can be flexible and use the information we’ve gained to navigate the way ahead.  If we take complications as opportunities to see our situation more clearly instead of the end of the road we will get through them more easily.  No road is without problems and there will be bumps and potholes along the way.  We can learn from each setback and decide how to effectively continue on.

If we must set a goal aside we may feel disappointment or even a sense of failure.  Change doesn’t mean we stop but that we need to redirect how we will go forward.  We can accomplish anything we desire but we may need to modify how and when we get to the destination.  We are flexible enough to do what is needed to succeed.  If we must wait, we can wait.  Everything changes every day and soon our situation will be right to begin again.  Success will come to us if we are willing to be flexible and determined enough to continue forward.

Today if you’ve been working hard to accomplish something and there have been continual problems and complications along the way, step back and decide how you want to go forward.  If the timing isn’t right, set the goal aside until things change.  You can do anything and you are wise enough to find the way through.

No Eraser

2 May

“Life is the art of drawing without an eraser.”  John W. Gardner

Everything in our lives is continually changing. The situations we face today will be different than what we’ll face tomorrow. Some days are easy and full of fun, and other days are more complicated and try our patience. We can’t control most of what comes to us, but we always have control over how we react and what we do. We can do anything we like but once we’ve done it, it becomes a permanent part of our lives. There is no way to go backward and change something in our history whether it happened years or moments ago. Everything we do will be there forever. There is no re-do option, there is no way to rewind, and there is no eraser. Knowing that, the best we can do is think about our choices before we make them so we make the best decisions possible. If we react quickly to a situation without thinking we may create more complications and problems. Instead of simply reacting and jumping to an answer we can choose to step back for a moment and find a way forward that will bring true resolution. No matter what we do our choice will stay with us from that point forward. We always have the opportunity to change our direction if we’ve chosen the wrong path and to amend our decisions if we’ve chosen what doesn’t work. What’s done is done and will remain but we can modify our way forward and re-direct our course.

If we’ve made bad decisions in the past and have been continually reminded of them, we may believe we won’t ever be able to move forward. Everyone makes mistakes and sometimes those mistakes have far reaching consequences. When that happens, we may struggle trying to untangle what we’ve created and our confidence may suffer. If we’ve made a mess, we can clean it up. If we’ve chosen badly, we can choose another way. Although we can’t change the past, the future is wide open and ready for any decisions we desire. Nothing can stop us from being successful and finding the right road going forward.

Guilt and shame are heavy burdens to carry. They grow heavier if we’ve negatively impacted not only our lives, but the lives of those around us. When we feel bad about choices we’ve made, when we’ve hurt ourselves and those around us, we may believe we will never be able to fix the mess we’ve created. But life is fluid and every day brings the opportunity for change. There isn’t any problem too difficult for us to solve and we can find the right road when we’re ready. Success is always there for us and we can find it.

Today if you’re dealing with complications from a decision you’ve made and aren’t sure how to go forward, take your time and think about what you really want. What’s done is done and if you need to re-route your way forward you can. There are lots of roads available to you. There isn’t anything you can’t do. Decide what you want most and plan your way forward. You have everything you need to be successful.

Straight Lines

24 Apr

When we want to be successful at something and are working hard to make things happen and push us ahead, we may expect our progress to move forward in a straight line.  If we’re diligently focusing it seems feasible to expect to make continual progress toward the destination.  It would be great if the line from where we are to where we want to go was straight and pointed up all the time.  We can achieve any goal we set our minds to but expecting to get there without delays or detours may not be what we experience.  Things happen, people make decisions, plans change and we may have to go sideways or even turn back a few steps to get back on track.  Success rarely comes easily and generally requires us to rethink, retool, and redirect from time to time.  We can plan and prepare and even if we’re sure the way forward is paved and clear, problems may arise that stop us in our tracks and force us to change our plans.  If the goal we’re seeking is important and we are determined to succeed, we can continue on no matter what complications come.  It may not come easily, the road may not be straight and the way forward may get dark from time to time.  We have enough courage and wisdom to find our way when things go wrong, and we are smart enough and strong enough to do what is needed to find success.

Some goals seem simple when we begin.  We know where we want to go and the road to get there is obvious and clear.  As we plan our way forward we may believe the goal will be easy to achieve.  Sometimes we are right, everything goes exactly as expected and we get to the destination with little struggle or time.  But other times, even if we’ve planned well and are sure the road we want to travel is available and ready for us, things may go awry.  There may be someone making decisions that block our way forward, or things change and the road we planned to travel is no longer available.  We may have to stop and find a new way to get to the destination.

Roadblocks and detours give us the opportunity to stop and think about our way forward again.  Sometimes when we stop in the middle of a journey we find better and easier roads to travel than we saw at the beginning.  We may find the detour points us in a direction previously unknown that gets us to the goal more quickly.  Every problem brings with it information that helps us going forward.  If we embrace the situation and take time to evaluate everything while we’re stopped, we may find answers we’ve been seeking.  There isn’t any goal we can’t achieve.  We have everything we need to find our way forward no matter how complicated the road becomes.  We are wise and powerful, and nothing can stop us from the success we desire.

Today if you’ve been pushing forward and there have been complications that stop your progress, take a moment to look around and see the whole picture.  There are answers there and you will find the way forward.  You can do anything.  There is nothing too complicated or difficult for you to overcome.  Rethink the road ahead and keep going.  Success is waiting for you and you will have it.

Stepping Out

17 Apr

“Too many opportunities out there to spend your life in a box. No matter how nice the box is.”  Dolphin Tale 2

Our lives are ours to design and we may do many things and go anywhere.  There are opportunities for us to try new things and open new doors.  When we feel settled and our lives have routines we may become complacent and neglect to notice what else is available to us.  We can make any decisions we like and if we want a small life we may certainly have one.  We can keep things close, never venture far from what we know and only step on the paths we’ve paved over time.  If we never step out or venture away from what we know we will never learn anything new.  There are countless opportunities for us to enrich our lives, endless roads we could travel and limitless experiences awaiting us.  If we open the door a little wider and take a step out of our comfort zone we will see things we don’t imagine and find wonders in the world and inside ourselves we never dreamed existed.  We are stronger and more capable than we think we are and there really isn’t anything we can’t do.  No matter how comfortable we feel in our lives we can always reach for something more.  Life is all about learning.  Staying locked up in a box – even a very nice box – will keep us from becoming the very best we could be.

Life is full of surprises and even if we try to keep our routines the same and prefer predictability, sometimes things will happen that shake everything up.  Unexpected complications take us someplace new that opens our eyes to fresh possibilities for the road ahead.  We can determine to re-set our lives back exactly the way they were before the tumult began, or we can choose to see things in a new light and try something else.  If we seize every opportunity for growth and step onto new paths we’ll develop more depth of understanding about our lives and the world around us.  We’ll be enriched by the possibilities of change.

If we’ve been doing the same things the same ways for a long time the idea of change may be daunting.  There is comfort in repetition and suddenly stepping off the paved path we’ve been on may be a challenge.  But staying on the same road can only give us the same experiences and the same views.  There are countless new things we could see and do, and stepping out will open our minds and enrich our lives.  We are capable of so much more.  We can stretch and reach for new goals, go to new places and build new dreams.  The world belongs to us.  If we open our arms and stretch there is no end to what we could do.

Today if you’ve been keeping your life the same and staying close to what is comfortable, think about trying something new.  Step out and see what’s possible. You are capable of so much and the world is there for you.  Open the door a little wider and stretch a little farther.  You can go anywhere, do anything, and make all your dreams come true.  There isn’t anything you can’t do and find success.
