Impenetrable

18 Apr

We have a lot of relationships in our lives.  There are people we trust implicitly, those we love, and others we merely tolerate.  How our relationships grow and progress depends on a lot of factors and we are in control of how close we let anyone get.  There are times in everyone’s life when things go wrong and if we suffer through a terrible relationship that hurts us or diminishes us if may be difficult to find our way.  We never have to stay in any situation that makes us uncomfortable or hurts us.  We can step away from any toxic situation and take a different road forward.  If we’ve had a bad experience and have been deeply wounded it may be hard to think about being open to someone new.  We may construct a high and strong emotional wall that prevents us from connecting closely to anyone in an effort to protect ourselves.  Walls are effective in keeping out unwanted exposure but they also keep us from feeling our deepest joy and satisfaction.  If we become sealed away and impenetrable to those around us we may feel safer but we will miss deep connections and associations that may bring us incredible happiness.  It’s hard to consider letting someone get close if we’ve been devastated in the past.  It takes courage to risk getting hurt again hoping for the possibility of complete happiness.  We will always carry all our experiences forward but they need not cripple our ability to connect.  If one person breaks our heart, it doesn’t mean everyone will. We can learn from what we’ve already been through and use the knowledge we’ve gained to trust ourselves and move forward with confidence.  Nobody knows what the future will bring but we are always in control of our decisions.  We know ourselves and can be wise and careful, and still be open to something new.  There are endless possibilities around us.  We can always open new doors and find success.

There are continual new experiences around us that may be unpredictable and unknown.  Although there is no way to ensure our decisions will always bring us happiness, we can trust in our ability to make them wisely.  If something goes wrong, we will adjust.  Nothing is going to break us completely.  We learn as we go and are intelligent enough to find our way.  We are completely capable of finding happiness.

After a car accident we may be hesitant to climb back into the driver’s seat, but once we do and have a successful trip, our confidence will rise and in time we’ll feel comfortable again.  There isn’t anything powerful enough to destroy our confidence forever.  We are resilient and wise and will always find our way forward.

Today if you’ve been hurt and have built a wall to keep others away in an effort to protect yourself, remember how strong you are.  There isn’t anything sufficient enough to destroy you.  You can be open to new experiences and trust yourself to find happiness.  Every possibility is there for you.  You are wise and strong and have everything you need to succeed.  Be courageous.  You’re amazing.

Going Forward

6 Dec

The road we travel as we live our lives is long and has many turns and twists as we navigate through the years. Sometimes things go well and other times we struggle to get through. It’s not always easy to push forward when there is wind blowing in our face, blinding us and making it hard to keep going, or rain muddying the way forward. If we’re sure we’re headed in the right direction we may stay the course and keep moving ahead with confidence. However, if the road is very hard and there are obstacles in front of us we may doubt our ability to press on. We might wonder if we’ve lost our way, if we need a better map or someone to help us, or if we’ll ever get to the destination. There are so many things that can happen to cloud our view forward and it takes determination to keep walking. We have everything we need to be successful and we know where we want to go. If we persevere, no matter what we face, we can continue. Confusion may come but we can find the answers we need. We can confidently take one step after another, even when it’s hard to see, and reach any destination we choose.

Our journey through life is long, and we will pass many stops along the way before we reach the end. Some are unexpected but each place offers us something to carry with us going forward. We may go somewhere foreign and feel uncomfortable and eager to leave but as we navigate the path we learn different ideas that will enrich us. Sometimes we reach a place that feels like home where we are happy and feel accepted, and as we move forward they buoy us up and give us confidence. We learn something new with everything we experience, and as we travel forward we change and develop a new and richer understanding of our lives and who we are. Each experience changes us in some way and we learn more about ourselves and who we really want to be.

Sometimes the way forward is easy and we move ahead with little resistance. Things go well and all the doors seem to open for us. But life is unpredictable and can be perilous. Everything changes continually and no matter where we are now, our circumstances will change. We will meet different people, experience new challenges, and learn to cope with everything we face. We’ll learn to manage all the bumps, complications, and disappointments as we travel and we’ll become stronger and truer to ourselves. Each day teaches us something we need to be successful. Learning every lesson well helps us find our way.

Today if your journey is thwarted with complication and problems, if you feel tired having to face yet another challenge, keep moving forward. There are rewards and blessings waiting for you. Each trial gives you a gift and each challenge teaches you something you need. You know where you want to go and you can persevere and find success. You are strong and capable of managing anything. Keep going forward. You have everything you need to succeed.

Trains

16 Oct

Have you ever been in hurry to get somewhere and been stopped by a train?  Maybe you were stressed, running late, and then suddenly there was a train blocking your progress.  A train.  And not a short one either, but a train pulling 50 cars on it.  You couldn’t make it go faster, and you couldn’t cut in front of it, so you had to wait.  Maybe you sat there fuming, frustrated, and maddened that you had to sit when you had so much to get done.  But trains happen, and when they do, we have to wait.  When we’re in a hurry and are trying to catch up, having our progress stopped is discouraging, and can really knock the wind out of our sails.  It might be a train, but often it’s because of a decision someone else has made that prevents us from going forward.  When our hands are tied, and we have to wait, we could get upset or we could use the time more wisely.  We could take the extra time to think.

Thinking about what we’re doing is an excellent idea.  Some decisions pop into our heads with little thought or consideration.  Generally they are decisions without a significant consequence and mean little to our overall progression.  But for the decisions that impact our lives, our livelihoods, our families, or our futures, we need to think carefully before we act.  If we’ve made an important decision, and begin to implement it only to be stopped for reasons we can’t control, it’s a good time to re-evaluate what we’ve decided, and review our choices going forward.  Sometimes a second look brings clarification and a revised plan.  Sometimes the break changes our focus altogether.  The important thing is to use the time we’re stuck to ponder our way forward.  Instead of getting angry when we have to wait, we can look at it as a time out to reflect on our chosen path.

There are countless variables in every decision we make.  There is timing to be considered, the feelings of others, our personal comfort, and the destination we are seeking.  We sometimes make excellent decisions but they come at the wrong time in our lives and we have to rethink them.  Or we make what we believe is the best decision but once we begin going forward discover a lot of complications we hadn’t planned on.  Life is unpredictable, and no matter what we choose, there is a lot we can’t control.  We can’t control the choices of others, we can’t control unexpected developments, and usually, we can’t control trains.  Whether it’s a real train or a symbolic one, when they come into our lives, we have to wait.  We can make the wait count by using it to confirm our choices, and review our approach.  If we take the time and use it wisely, we may be surprised by what we find.

Today if you’re stuck and waiting because of something you can’t control, think about the path you’ve chosen and evaluate the decision again.  Is there a way to make it go more smoothly?  Is there something you can do that you didn’t see before?  Think about your next move and make it as productive as possible.  You’ve already determined what you want, and you are capable of making it happen.  Think clearly about your next step and when the time is right, take it.  You know where you’re going, and success is just around the corner.
