Walking Away

17 May

There are times in everyone’s life when what we want to happen simply won’t come. We may try and try and try again to move forward but the result we’re seeking is out of our hands and no matter what we do we can’t achieve it. At some point we must decide if we want to continue pressing ahead or turn and walk away. They say hope springs eternal. We can hope for anything but hope is only the expectation that what we want to happen will come, and sometimes our expectations aren’t met. We can work toward any goal we desire for as long as we choose but if nothing we do moves us closer to it we may need to rethink the way forward. There is nothing wrong with changing our plans and walking away from something that doesn’t work. There is much to accomplish and spinning our wheels and staying in place isn’t helpful. Setting a goal aside doesn’t mean we have to give it up completely. What we can’t achieve today may come easily in the future when our lives have changed and we’re in a different place. We can look at a difficult situation objectively and choose the way forward that will bring us success. Life is filled with endless opportunities and we are capable of achieving many things as we move forward. Being wise about how we spend out time and choosing the most productive roads will open all the doors we’re seeking. Life is long and we can revisit anything we’ve set aside and try again. Everything we want to do is possible in time. We can choose what works today and plan for new destinations tomorrow.

Our personal relationships may be very important to us. There may be someone we want to get closer to but no matter what we do they remain elusive and out of reach. We may try to pursue them indefinitely but our time is valuable and if things aren’t improving we can move on to something else. We never have to stay stuck in a holding pattern waiting for something to change. We can step away and walk in a new direction. Our lives belong to us and what we do is our responsibility. We can be successful and accomplish many things, and we can direct our lives in ways that move us forward.

Patience is a beneficial attribute. It’s good to be able to wait and we can be patient with others when they need time. We can wait for as long as we like but if we want to succeed eventually the situation must improve. If it doesn’t, we can walk away for now and move on with our lives. It will never work for us to keep waiting for something that doesn’t change. There may be an opportunity in the future if we want to try again. We can move ahead and if things are different later we can revisit our previous plans.

Today if you’ve been waiting for something to happen and nothing has changed, think about how you want to move forward. There are countless opportunities for you and you need not wait indefinitely for anything. Move forward and step on the next road. Your time is valuable and your life is precious. Seek the things that bring you happiness and move toward success. All options are possible. Open all the doors and step ahead. Every happiness is there and you will achieve it.

Filling the Tank

21 Jul

There are a lot of demands on our time and energy.  There may be a constant need to complete tasks that are sometimes pressing and urgent and we take care of things as they come.  If we keep up a steady pace and stay busy we will accomplish many things but as we move forward every activity may drain us a little and after a time we may feel exhausted and unmotivated.  When we’re driving our cars we’re well aware that when the gas needle starts pointing to empty we need to fill the tank or we’ll be going nowhere.  The same is true for our personal lives.  We sometimes forget that we don’t have unlimited energy or resources from which to draw as we move along.  We can give a lot but at some point the tank will creep close to empty and it will be time to fill the tank.  It’s impossible to give our best when we’ve been tapped out.  When we start to feel sluggish and our passion has waned it may be a sign it’s time to refuel.  Nobody has endless energy and we all face times when we’ll need to recharge.  It’s not hard to refill the tank when we’ve lost our power.  If we engage in activities we enjoy the most our spirits will rise and we’ll feel renewed energy.  If we like being outdoors, a short walk may lift us.  Or we could turn on our favorite music and take some personal dance time.  A break with good friends and time enjoying their company may refresh us.  It doesn’t matter what we choose to restore so long as we take the time to do it.  We have so much to offer and can be a positive influence on the world around us but if we want to make an impact we need to be sure we’ve filled the tank and are ready to go.

The demands to do more and accomplish more seem to press on us every day.  If we are asked to do more than we can, we may modify the request so we can be successful.  Others may do things differently, they may be faster or reach higher than we are comfortable.  Although it’s good to reach beyond our grasp if we want to find success we must also acknowledge our personal limitations.  Maybe we can’t get it done as fast as someone else but it will be done perfectly.  We can do an excellent job at any task and still be sure we’re doing it in ways that are best for us.

Stretching our capabilities gives us greater skill and confidence as we move forward.  We can embrace new ideas and projects and as we do we’ll learn more and move further down the road we’re traveling.  We can be as involved as we choose and each opportunity will open new doors for us.  We have everything we need to do anything we like and if we’re mindful of our personal needs we will find great success.  We know what’s best for us and how to manage our lives.  When we take the time we need to care for ourselves nothing will stop us.

Today if you’ve been pushing yourself constantly doing many things and accomplishing much, remember to take some time to nurture yourself.  You are a great gift to the world and we all want to share time with you.  Make sure you recharge and restore your energy when you need to.  You have so much to offer and we’re all blessed you’re here.

Hand Off

18 Mar

We all do many things well and some things very well. We can learn new skills and become proficient at anything we like. But sometimes we might find ourselves in over our heads when we’re in a situation that is more difficult than we planned. Maybe we don’t have the experience to manage the issue or we can’t handle the demands it requires. We can’t be good at everything and it’s important to recognize there are times when we need to hand things off to someone else. Letting something go and giving it to someone who is better equipped to handle it doesn’t mean we’ve failed. The most successful people in the world are those who understand they don’t need to know everything, and if they don’t have the skills to manage a project, there is someone who does who can help. It’s wise and appropriate to hand off issues that are more than we’re prepared to take on. This is not the same as abandoning our everyday responsibilities when they get complicated. Those are ours, and we are must manage them. But when we get into situations we don’t have the tools to manage, the best we can do is let someone with the best skill set take over. That way the issue gets attention, we aren’t stressed out of our minds trying to do something we can’t, and we gain the best possible outcome.

Learning to delegate and let others do things instead of trying to manage everything ourselves can be difficult. If we have control issues we may believe we are the only one who can do the job right even when everything indicates that isn’t so. Control issues are a form of selfishness.  If we have to control everything we will inevitably fail at something.  It’s better to trust others more equipped to handle the issues we can’t.  Some people think if they delegate a difficult task to someone else, people will think they’re incompetent or they’ve failed. Opinions vary but we never fail when we recognize our limits and then do what is needed to move forward. We are capable of seeing the situation objectively and making any changes needed to ensure success. The successful resolution of the issue is the goal. If we keep that forefront in our minds it will be easier to delegate when we need to.

It’s foolish to believe we are good at everything. We all have strengths and weaknesses. Recognizing them both and accepting them helps us understand where we are and what we can do best. We can accept our limitations, and do what is needed to work around them. Working with others and combining forces and knowledge makes everything easier. When we do, we can draw on many different strengths instead of just our own. Allowing others to help will move us forward more efficiently. We don’t have to do everything ourselves. We don’t have to be the one and only. We can collaborate and in doing so, we will win.

Today if you’re drowning in a situation above your abilities, reach out and get help. There are a lot of people around you and they all have talents and gifts you don’t possess. Trust them and allow them into the circle. Hand off the issues that are beyond your reach.  You’ll feel better and success will come more easily. Reach out and let others reach back. Together you’ll overcome anything.

All Set

13 Oct

Being busy is just part of life.  We have things we need to get done, and things we want to get done, and there are always complications that eat up our time.  We have tasks that keep us busy, and we have goals for things we want to accomplish.  It takes planning to get everything done, and if we aren’t careful, the daily tasks that pop up will take all our focus and we’ll forget about the goals that are waiting in the background.  We can think about our tasks as short term projects, things we have to address now.  The goals we’ve set for our personal growth are generally more long term.  If we want to accomplish them, we need to manage our time, and make a plan so we can succeed.  Our daily chores are important, but our personal goals are important too.  They help us define who we are and who we want to be.  Although we may think of them as a priority, if we don’t take time to plan for them, they may get lost in the shuffle.

If we have a goal that requires significant time like going to the gym for three hours each week, if we want to make it happen, we need to get it onto our schedule.  If we write it down and decide that no matter what comes we are committed to being there, we have a better chance of making it happen.  If our goal is to have more down time by ourselves it may take careful planning to be absent from our routine.  We can figure out how to excuse ourselves, and find a private location where we won’t be disturbed.  If we want to develop a more extensive social life, we can make plans for local events, and if we invite friends to join us their participation will ensure we actually attend.  No matter what the goal is, if we want to achieve it we need a plan.

Sometimes our long range goals involve a financial aspect.  We may not have the funds for them now but if we commit to a date to be ready, make a plan for saving the required amount, and implement it, we’ll be prepared when the time arrives.  If they require a fitness level we haven’t yet achieved, we can start training and maybe work with someone else until we are strong and ready for the event.  There are few things more rewarding than planning for, and accomplishing a long desired goal.  We feel gratified and happy when we realize we did what we set out to do.  Even very difficult challenges may be attained if we work for them, and plan for them.  If we start out believing we will achieve them, and refuse to let complications stand in our way, we’ll get there.  We can do anything we want to, and we can fill our lives with exciting changes and new experiences.  We can reach for the brass ring, and we can grasp it.

Today if you’re thinking about something you want to do, make a plan to achieve it.  Schedule your time to allow for it, and believe that you will accomplish it.  You can make all your dreams come true one step at a time.  Believe in yourself.  Believe you can, and you will.  You have the courage and determination to get this done.  Reach high and stretch.  There isn’t anything you can’t do.

Wingspan

7 Oct

When birds fly, they stretch their wings all the way out to use the entire span for lift. They reach and pull to make the most of each stroke so their flight is even, and seemingly effortless. However, nothing that defies gravity is effortless, and in spite of the work it takes, they fly when they want to, and get where they need to be. We don’t have wings, but we have things we need to do and they take effort as well. If we enjoy the task it can seem easy and fun, but no matter what we’re doing we need to make sure it gets done. There is an old saying that anything worth doing is worth doing well. And that’s true. If we’re going to expend any effort, or do anything, we should do it the best way we can.

Some people choose to live a lukewarm existence. They don’t volunteer to do any heavy lifting, they don’t push themselves to be better, and they don’t care if they learn and grow. They are happy keeping things predictable and easy, and they don’t want to stretch. They can’t risk getting sore by doing too much or trying too hard so they keep a low profile and just get by. If we choose to live like that we might have an easier ride overall, and we may not feel great disappointment.  But we also won’t feel great accomplishment or the excitement of changing and growing. We can coast through our days if we like, and give the least amount of effort to the things we do. We can get by doing the minimum amount required, or we can apply ourselves, challenge ourselves and see how far we can go. If we do as little as possible, we probably won’t learn anything new. We’ll get through the task, check if off our lists, and forget about it.

Stretching our wings takes thought and preparation. If we really apply ourselves, if we look to see what new things we can learn, and what real gifts we can offer, our tasks will be more rewarding and we’ll grow as we complete them. Others will notice how much interest we have in the things we do, and if we’re really committed to excellence, will entrust us with their best projects, and their best ideas. We’ll never realize how far we can go if we don’t leave our comfort zone. We’ll never know how much we can learn if we don’t try new things. This life is a time to experiment, to test, to try, and to push ourselves and go as far as we can. If we stretch our wings all the way out, and use all the strength and determination we can, we’ll become stronger, more confident people who understand they can do anything. Nothing will stop us and the world will belong to us.

Today if you’ve been keeping a low profile, if you’ve been doing just enough to get by, try to reach a little further. You have abilities you haven’t yet realized. You can do anything and when you reach for it, you can conquer any circumstance. You are capable of accomplishing whatever you set your mind to. Be confident. Open all the doors and go boldly through each one. You’ve got everything you need to accomplish anything you choose. Spread your wings all the way out and soar. Today, show the world what you’re made of and what you can do.
