Programmed

When we’re children, we see what our parents and other adults around us are doing and watch the decisions they make. We may begin to pattern our lives around their example because we don’t have much to compare them to. As we get older and begin to step away from the family unit more and more, our understanding of different ideas and interpretations broadens, and we begin to see that not everyone does things the same way. Everything we see changes us a little and we start to form our own ideas about how we want to live our lives and what we want to do. As we mature, we may think we’re on a completely different road than the one our parents taught us, and then we realize we’ve made a decision exactly the same way as they would. We may believe we really haven’t changed at all, and think we’re programmed to continue making the same choices and the same mistakes we saw our first family make, and there’s nothing we can do about it. While it’s definitely true that what we learned and saw as a child may have influence over what we do as adults, nobody is destined to repeat history. We all have our own agency and can do anything we like, but we must consciously decide what that will be. It takes effort to live “on purpose” instead of just going through the motions. Each of us is an individual and we can all design our lives any way we like. There is no destiny keeping us from making our own choices. It’s all up to us. If we want to turn in a different direction, we can. If we want to go down a new road, we can. Everything is possible. Nothing can keep us from achieving any goal we desire. By deciding what we want, and then doing what is needed to make it ours, we can have the lives we want the most. Great success is possible, and we will prevail.

Some families stay very close to tradition. They follow the same rules the generation before followed and hold firm to the habits and customs of the past. Just because something has always been done one way doesn’t mean it cannot be done differently. Despite tradition, we are in control of our own lives. We can continue to follow the traditional behaviors if that’s what we want, or we can forge our own way forward. We know what we want and have everything we need to achieve it.

It takes courage to live our lives according to our own personal desires and aspirations. The pressure to follow along with the norm can be great, but it’s impossible to make our own dreams come true by following what others are doing. We are entitled to complete fulfillment and happiness, and by following our personal desires and doing what is needed to make them ours, we will achieve it. Every single dream is possible, and nothing can keep us from success.

Today if you want to move in a different direction but have hesitated, decide what you want the most, and take the first step forward. Every destination is there for you and you have everything you need to reach them. Be confident. You are amazing and powerful, and have all the courage you need to succeed.

Holding Tight

Life can be complicated and sometimes lots of things happen that distract us from the road we want to travel.  There are often many different things going on at the same time and it can be difficult to focus on the goals we’re trying to achieve.  It’s rare when everything goes exactly the way we plan and there are no problems moving ahead.  Complications may muddy the way and unexpected developments may hang us up and hold us in place.  We can manage many objectives at the same time and are able to overcome any problem before us, but while we’re navigating through one mess or another, we may set our personal goals aside.  Setting something aside doesn’t mean abandoning it but when there’s a lot going on, sometimes situations take over and as we untangle ourselves from the fray it may be hard to go back and pick up where we left off.  One thing often leads us to another and if we don’t hold tight to the goals we really want to achieve, they may get lost in the shuffle.  We can be effective in solving whatever problems arise and still go back and return to our personal goals.  Success is always an option if we control the direction we’re traveling.  Our dreams won’t come true on their own and our goals won’t be achieved simply by waiting for them to arrive.  We must do what is needed to create the lives we want.  It doesn’t matter what gets in the way, we have everything we need to focus on what’s most important and reach any destination we desire.  Our lives are up to us to design.  We can simply let events decide our path, or we can proactively and purposefully determine where we will go.

Tradition and custom are powerful motivators.  If something has been done the same way for a long time, people become accustomed to the pattern and comfortable with the result.  If we want lives like those around us they are easy to achieve.  We need only follow everyone else and copy their choices.  But we are individuals and our dreams are specific to who we are.  We never have to do something one way simply because it’s always been done that way.  We can express our own ideas and move forward on a new road.  There are unlimited ways to live a successful and fulfilling life.  We can step onto our own path and reach for what we want the most.

The road to our dreams is rarely paved and smooth, and filled with light. There will be times when things will get in our way, detours will happen, and we may even face a complete road block.  It doesn’t matter what complications arise, there will always be a way around them.  We are intelligent and when we get stuck will find the answers we need to continue forward.  Having faith in our ability to achieve whatever goal we choose will help us manage any problems that arise.  We can be confident of success and sure of the way forward.

Today if there’s a lot of noise and complication, and the path to your goal has problems blocking the way, keep moving forward.  You can find your way around anything before you.  There is always a solution and you are wise and creative enough to find it.  Be confident.  You can reach any goal you desire and make all your dreams come true.

Doors

There are endless opportunities in life and we are restricted only by our own decisions. We can think of our lives as an endless hallway of doors. Every door we walk through opens a new road ahead that takes us somewhere we’ve never been and teaches us something to take forward. How many doors we open is up to us. If we want a life filled with new experiences we may fearlessly open as many as possible. Conversely, if we want a predictable life that is comfortable in its sameness, we may stick with only a few. We can design our lives any way we choose and the choices we make will color our experiences. When there is something new we want to try, we may be nervous about starting out. We may fear we won’t be up to the task and will fail. We can’t tell the future but one thing is certain, if we don’t take the chance, we will never experience the outcome. There really is nothing to be lost by extending our boundaries and opening the doors before us. We are strong enough to endure any complication and resilient enough to take any criticism. All the roads are open to us and we may travel as many as we desire. There is no rush and we may take all the time we need to decide. Life is filled with opportunity. How many we choose is completely up to us, but the depth of understanding we gain by stretching beyond where we are is extremely valuable. We learn more about ourselves as we try new things. We understand our place in life as we extend our reach. Living fearlessly and boldly will bring us great blessings. There really isn’t anything we can’t do. We can open all the doors we desire and see where they will take us.

Tradition may be a powerful restrictor. When our personal traditions are very strong it may be more difficult to reach beyond them. If those close to us value the patterns held in place over time, there may be strong pushback if we decide we want something different. Traditions are wonderful and help us treasure important facets of our relationships but they may keep the doors around us closed. There is no door we cannot open and no road we cannot travel. We can hold fast to the ways and customs we value, and still create the lives we want the most.

It takes courage to reach beyond where we are and try something new. We don’t really know what’s behind a new door or where it will lead. Although there is no way at the beginning to see everything at the end of any road, we have everything necessary to move forward toward any destination we desire. All the courage we need is already inside us and we are smart enough, and strong enough to take on any challenge. The whole world is available to us. We can do anything. We can start something new, and success will follow.
