What They Said

23 May

Our lives are busy as we’re focused on attending to our responsibilities, taking care of what’s pressing, and trying to get everything that’s important done on time. As we interact with others, situations will undoubtedly arise where our input or suggestions are requested. If we’re interested in what’s going on, we may spend valuable time thinking about it and how to navigate through it. But sometimes, when we’re busy, even if the issue is important, we may be too distracted to offer anything and simply go along with what everyone else wants. Going with the flow of those around us is easy, doesn’t require any time or thought, and sometimes everything works out just fine. However, when things go wrong, we may stand back and shake our heads at the calamity around us and feel blameless, because after all, it wasn’t our decision. That’s not entirely true. If we choose to go along with what others are doing, we’re making a conscious decision to agree. That means we own it as well as everyone else. If things go awry, we’re just as responsible as the others involved. We are always accountable for everything we do, even if all we do is coast along with others. Casting blame on those who had the original idea when the plan falls apart does not exclude us. Life is filled with opportunities to learn and grow, and each decision we make teaches us something valuable going forward. Even when we don’t make a choice, we are choosing. Everything we do has a consequence. Owning our part in our decisions and then doing what is needed to correct them will take us where we want to go and make us the people we want to be. We are wise and capable of making excellent decisions and with determination and purpose, can achieve anything we desire.

If we ride in the backseat of a car, we aren’t driving. We aren’t deciding which turn to take or even what the destination will be. But if we get in the car, there is a tacit understanding that we agree to accept wherever it goes, and where it ends up. The same applies if we go along with other peoples’ decisions. We may not make the choice ourselves, but aligning ourselves with them implies our acceptance and agreement with it. Everything we do has a consequence. We can ensure we end up where we want to go by weighing each decision carefully before we choose.

If we’re in a situation with someone who has authority over us who decides we’ll do something we don’t agree with, we may feel we can’t object. Like being caught in a slipstream gliding along, we may feel powerless to escape. We can always express our concerns over any issue. We can positively speak up with clarity and respect, and share our viewpoint. Then if we must participate, we can move forward with confidence that we did our best.

Today if you’ve been taking a backseat to the decisions around you and going along with what others have decided, remember your life is important and your choices are valuable. Speak up and share your viewpoint. Every step will take you somewhere. Make sure it’s where you most want to go. Be confident and proceed with determination. Create the life you want the most and all your dreams will come true.

The Whole Story

22 Mar

Each day brings many decisions. Some are minor and inconsequential and work out no matter what we choose, but others carry more weight. Many times, we can discern how important a decision is by the possible consequences that may arise after we choose. But sometimes, what seems unimportant at first may become critical in the road ahead. If we’re in a hurry or stressed, or don’t place a lot of value on a situation and choose without thinking, it might be fine. Things may roll out the way we expect them to and we may move ahead with hardly a look back. However, if there are unseen or unknown complications connected to the choice we’re making, a seemingly simple choice may turn out to be a nightmare. It’s like opening a door without really knowing what’s behind it. We don’t know what we don’t know, and there is always more to the story. It may be impossible to see the whole story from the beginning and we’ll have to choose with the information we have. There is no road map for our lives to caution us about upcoming detours or unexpected turns. We learn as we go and if we take a wrong turn, we can correct our course and reroute back to the road we want to be on. Nothing is permanent and everything can be modified. We have all the wisdom and insight we need to see things as they are, and determine what we need to change. We can find our way to any destination we desire. All options are possible and we have enough wisdom and determination to succeed.

One thing always leads to another, and when we choose the first step on any road, we also choose the last. Each road leads us somewhere and if we’re impulsive and don’t consider the ramifications of our choices before making them, we may end up somewhere we never intended to go. Making decisions without considering their consequences is like getting into a car with a stranger and letting them drive us wherever they want without any information or warning. If we don’t control our decisions, we may lose control over our lives. We know what we want, and have the power to create the lives we desire. We can see everything clearly before we decide and then choose paths that take us where we want to go.

We sometimes don’t know how far reaching a decision may become until it affects our lives. Something that seems simple and straight forward may become complicated and involved. We can avoid confusion by taking the time to carefully look at any possible developments that may arise and then decide. We can make excellent decisions that take us forward, and manage any issues that may arise on the way. We are intelligent and strong, and have everything we need to find success.

Today if you’ve rushed through a decision that has created a situation you didn’t plan on, be wise and carefully choose your next step. The road ahead is still there for you and you will find it. You are capable of doing anything you desire, and nothing can keep you from success. Choose wisely and go forward with confidence. Every destination is possible.

What We See

13 Jul

“Two men looked out from prison bars. One saw the mud, the other saw stars.” Dale Carnegie

They say perception is reality. We all see things through our own paradigms and they are colored by our perception and how we think. Some people are natural optimists and even in dark times find something that makes them happy. Others see trouble in every aspect of their lives and struggle to feel joy. Two people facing the exact same issue may see it completely differently. We have the power to change our perspective and choose to find joy no matter what we’re facing. There will always be something to be happy about no matter how dire the circumstances. If we determine to find the one good thing while we struggle we will feel calmer and more confident as we go forward. Life is a great blessing. It isn’t always easy, it isn’t always fun and it isn’t always what we want to do. But no matter what it is, we have everything we need to not only survive but thrive as we progress. We can look down and see only mud, or we can turn our eyes upward and see the stars. It’s all there for us. We need only choose how we’ll see it.

We take a lot for granted as we go through our days. We grow accustomed to our comfortable homes, our cars, our clothes, our food, our jobs if we have them, and all the rest. We expect them to be there from day to day and rarely think about losing them. But sometimes life throws a wrench into the works and something fails. We get sick, or our cars die, or our jobs are threatened and suddenly we remember how many blessings we have and how much we want them. It’s easy to become complacent until the bottom falls out and we must face the possibility of losing something we love. We can choose to be thankful for everything we have. When we recognize our personal blessings, and appreciate all the gifts we possess, we’ll find more humility and grace and get closer to the person we most want to be.

Some people are never happy. They may complain because they don’t have a job and then get one and complain because it’s hard to go to work every day. There are lots of reasons why people are unhappy and we can justify every emotion we feel but happiness is a choice we make. It’s something only we can give ourselves. It really doesn’t matter what is going on outside us. If we choose to, we can find happiness in any situation. There will always be something for which to be grateful. If we seek out those precious, sometimes small gifts, our lives will be enhanced and we will feel deeper joy. Life is an incredible gift but how we live it is up to us.

Today if you’ve been feeling bad and find yourself looking down at the mud instead of up at the stars, change your focus. You have so many things to be grateful for. Find joy in the small moments and see every gift you possess. Your life is precious and priceless. Be happy and find joy. It’s right there for you. Reach for it and embrace it.

The Neutral Zone

6 Jul

There will be few times in our lives when we’ll get where we want to go serendipitously or by accident. Generally, if we want something to happen we’ll have to work for it. Pushing forward toward any goal is the best way to ensure we get there but there may be times when we have to wait. There may be others standing in our way we cannot move. There may be situations that take our attention away from the road forward or unforeseen complications that must be resolved before we can proceed. Waiting is like idling in neutral. The engine is still running but until the gears change we can’t proceed. If we must wait a long time we may give up on the goal and decide to take another path. We can always change our direction at any time but if the goal is something we truly want we can be patient and remain in place until things change. We don’t have to give up on any goal we value. It may feel we have no control as we wait but even when standing still we are in command of our lives. Life changes constantly and in time our situation will modify and we’ll be able to proceed forward again. While we wait we can be prepared and ready for that eventuality and spring into action as soon as we are able. The opportunity to move forward will always come again.

Life is all about choices. We can do anything we want and go anywhere we want to go. We don’t need the agreement of others and we may define our lives in our own personal ways. If we lack confidence or are unsure we may stand still and let others decide what we will do. If we don’t control our lives, others will control them for us and the destinations they choose may not be the ones we want. We are the only ones with personal inspiration regarding what is best for us. Even those who know us very well will never know us completely. We have everything we need to go where we really want to go. Shifting out of neutral and determining to define things according to our personal desires will help us achieve the lives we want the most.

The neutral zone is an easy place to live. We don’t have to make decisions, we don’t have think about the future and we don’t have to work hard to continue forward. When a car is in neutral very little fuel is needed to keep it running. It doesn’t take much energy to stand still. When we let life determine our path forward we give up the opportunity to design our lives and achieve what we truly desire. We deserve every happiness. Every dream can come true if we purposely move forward toward it and do what is needed to find success. We can go anywhere and do anything but first we have to gear up and begin.

Today if you’ve been waiting for something to happen to change your life, take control and start to move. Begin the journey you’ve been dreaming about. There isn’t anything you can’t do. You are more powerful than you imagine and you can accomplish anything you desire. Step forward. Your destination is just ahead and nothing will keep you from success.
