Dropping It

27 Jul

There are endless things we can accomplish in our lives, and success is always a possibility. Some things are easy, take little time to achieve, and we sail right through to the end with little inconvenience. Other things, not so much. We may have a big challenge that requires lots of planning, extensive time, and endless work to get to success. It may take a long time, and there may be many complications, snags, unexpected developments and endless issues as we move ahead. Each step we take, and each problem we solve moves us closer to the goal, but when that movement is minuscule, and hardly noticeable, and we’ve been trying for a long time, we might decide we’ve had enough. We might choose to drop the ball, and walk away. We can do anything we like, but dropping the ball will only help us lose the game. It will never take us to the prize. Everyone has their own limits, and if we’re tired of the struggle, and frustrated with how difficult it’s been to move the needle even a little, we might give up. It’s hard to keep pushing forward if we feel we’ll never prevail. We’re in control of our lives and can decide at any time how we want to proceed. We can continue forward, or let the goal go and move onto something else. But we cannot achieve any goal by dropping the ball and walking away. If it’s important to us, we have everything we need to find our way to success. It may take more time than we want, and might be harder than we thought at the beginning, but we are strong and capable, and if we want to win, we will. Our lives are ours to design. We can do anything and go anywhere, and nothing is out of reach.

Time is always an issue when we’re trying to accomplish something. Nobody has unlimited time, and there are responsibilities to take care of, jobs to accomplish, tasks that need our attention, and endless interruptions. When we’re trying to reach our personal goals in the midst of all the other things we have to do, it can be hard to get to them. If the goal is important to us, we can prioritize our lives in ways that give us the opportunity to push forward. We’re in control of everything we do, can focus on what’s most important, and move forward toward success.

It’s impossible to be successful if we’re half in on the deal. If we only kinda want to accomplish the goal, we’ll only be kinda successful. If we really want to move forward, we must be committed. That means we must make a plan and then stick to it. Complications will undoubtedly arise, things may get in the way, and we might get off track a time or two. But if we’re intent on reaching the goal, nothing can keep us from it. Everything we want to do is possible. Every destination is within reach. We need only decide what we want, then step forward and claim it.

Today if you’ve been on the same road toward a destination for a long time, and are tired of the struggle, decide what you want the most. If the goal is still important, stay the course and reach it. If you no longer want to continue, choose how you want to proceed. You can have the life you dream of if you’re willing to do the work. Pick the ball back up and step forward. Every success is there for you, and you will reach it.

Reboot

We are always in control of what we do and are responsible for every decision we make.  However, there may be times when we allow ourselves to be coerced into doing something we really don’t want to do.  Pressure from those around us, family, and loved ones may be great, and if we acquiesce to their desires and go along we may find ourselves in places we never wanted to go.  It’s not possible to see the future and there is no way to know the complete results and implications of our choices when we make them.  The best we can do is evaluate possible outcomes and do our best to ensure we don’t end up disappointed and suffering.  If we allow others to push us into choices we don’t want to make and don’t take the time we need to look at all the possible ramifications, we may open the door to problems and trouble.  If we end up someplace foreign and can’t find the way out, we can step back and rethink our situation.  No matter what has happened, we have the power to change course at any time.  We don’t have to stay anywhere we don’t want to be.  By staying grounded and in control of our lives, turning around when we need to redirect, and paying attention to where we’re headed, we’ll have the best chances possible of achieving the lives we most desire.  We can do anything and by holding firm to what is right for us we’ll achieve every goal.  Life is all about the choices we make.  By looking carefully and taking our time we can make excellent decisions that take us exactly where we want to go.

It’s impossible to do everything at the same time.  If we’re impatient we may try to do several things at once in an effort to get through them more quickly.  That might work if everything goes as planned and there are no hiccups in the way, but trying to do many things is like juggling.  It takes concentration to keep three balls in the air and if we add two or three more they may all fall.  We will never move forward if everything falls apart in the process.  It takes more time to clean up a mess and start over than it does to plan effectively and do things in order from the beginning.  Life is not a race, and although there may be time constraints attached to the project we’re working, we can plan effectively to complete what’s needed.

No matter where we are in any process, if things aren’t working and we’re not progressing, we can stop and start again on a new road.  We don’t know what lies ahead and sometimes the roads we choose have unforeseen barriers that don’t allow us to advance.  There is no failure in choosing a different path.  We can change direction at any time and begin again.  Every goal is possible and nothing is out of reach.  If we get stuck we can re-evaluate our plans and find another way.  We can do anything.  We are wise and capable, and every option is possible.

Today if you’re being pressured to do something you don’t want to do, choose what’s best for you.  Let others make their own decisions and find your own path.  You know what you want and where you want to go.  Step ahead on the road that will take you there.  You are amazing and powerful, and can do anything you desire.  Great success is always there for you and you will reach it.

“Find a way.”  Diana Nyad

There are many inspirational people in the world who have faced incredible odds and overcome them.  At the age of 64, swimmer Diana Nyad swam from Cuba to Florida, a journey of 110 miles.  When asked how she faced the many challenges of this quest including sharks, jelly fish stings, extreme fatigue and damaging sun burn she said every time things looked impossible she would determine to find a way forward.  Her desire to succeed was so great that no matter how hard things looked she knew she could find a way – and she did.  We may never face a physical challenge as great as this but we will endure difficult situations that test our resolve and willingness to go forward.  Sometimes we may be confident of success but other times we may doubt our ability to survive.  There really isn’t anything we can’t overcome and there are no problems without resolutions.  We discover hidden courage and resilience when we walk through turbulent and threatening trials.  Everything we need is already there within us.  We can reach deep and capture all the strength necessary to win.  No matter what comes we can find a way to move forward and get to the other side.  We are stronger than we realize.  Nothing will hold us down and we will succeed.

In baseball, when a hitter swings and misses the ball a strike is called.  After three strikes the hitter is out and can no longer continue to try.  Although we may stumble, there are no strikeouts in our lives.  We have unlimited chances to find the answers we need.  There is no scorecard and we will never be out of the game.  If we don’t succeed with the first choice, we can choose again.  If our second choice fails as well, we can continue.  We learn as we go and each fumble teaches us something new and gives us more information.  Nothing will keep us from finding the solution and with each step forward we will get closer to the goal.

After trying several options that don’t work we may become discouraged and believe we will never succeed.  There are rarely times in our lives when we must find the answers within a given time frame.  We can take all the time we need to find the best way forward.  There is no one right way to do anything.  We have unlimited options from which to choose and we will find the answers we need.  If we trust ourselves and take the time necessary to see all the options available we will find a way.  There isn’t anything we can’t accomplish.  We are strong and capable and nothing is too hard for us to overcome.

Today if you’re facing a difficult situation and feel like you can’t figure it out, step back and take a moment to see everything clearly.  You are smarter than you think you are and you know what you need to do.  The answers will come and you will find the way forward.  Everything is already there for you and you will succeed.  Trust yourself.  You are amazing and you will find the way.

Good Intentions

28 Sep

There are lots of things we can do for others.  We can help in small ways to let them know we care, we can help with special projects, and we can be there when they need us.  In our busy lives though, there are times we may commit to something, and even plan on doing it, but time gets away from us or we get distracted, and it doesn’t happen.  If we drop the ball once in a while it’s generally not a problem, but if it becomes a consistent behavior trait, we may find we lose the trust of those around us.  Good intentions are nice, but if we don’t follow through they don’t mean anything.  There is an old saying, “The road to hell is paved with good intentions.”  Perhaps we won’t actually go to hell if we drop the ball, but it certainly won’t work in our favor.

We all have a lot to offer those around us.  Most of us want to be good friends and family members, and try to be there when the need arises.  We make promises to help and most of the time we follow through, but if something comes up and we miss the commitment, it’s important that we apologize.  Most people are forgiving when plans don’t work out and they’ll trust us again if we fail to show once.  But we need to be careful we don’t make promises we can’t keep.  If we say we’re going to be there and don’t show again and again, we will damage our relationships.  There is no way to prevent the loss of trust if we keep letting others down.  Trust is something we earn, and if we drop the ball and lose that trust, it can be hard to restore.

We can get caught up in situations when we’re asked to do something or be somewhere that will be difficult for us.  If the person requesting our help is adamant in their need, we may agree to be there even if we’re not sure we can.  The pressure to go along with an idea can be intense, and some people can be very persuasive.  But even if they are insistent, it’s up to us to make the best decisions possible.  If the situation is such that we aren’t sure we can follow through, we need to express that.  It’s important to state our concerns about the request, and clearly explain that we aren’t sure we can be available.  Keeping our promises is important, and if we aren’t sure we can, we need to say so.  It would be great if we could all do everything we’re asked to but that isn’t generally possible.  And so it’s up to us to define when we can and when we can’t.  We can be confident in making the commitments we’re sure of, and we can be just as confident in declining requests we can’t fulfill.

Today if you’re being asked to do something you can help with, commit your time and make sure you follow through.  If you can’t do it, be confident in declining the request.  It doesn’t mean you don’t want to help, and you will assist another time.  Have the best intentions by being clear about your ability to commit.  You are in control of your life and you know what you can do.  Keep the trust of those around you by being honest and careful in making your decisions.  A trustworthy friend is a valuable asset.  Be that person to those around you.
