Free Pass

Every choice we make has consequences. If we’re careful and thoughtful, and do our best to choose the best possible options, chances are the consequences of those decisions will work in our favor. But people are complex and life is complicated. Things go wrong, unexpected problems arise, and we make mistakes. If we’re stressed, overwhelmed, angry or distracted, we might make a decision that isn’t in our best interest and has dire results. We are free to choose anything we like, but we’re not free to choose the results of those decisions. There is no way to escape our accountability for the choices we make. It doesn’t matter is we were stressed, upset, confused, or convinced by someone else to do something. If we make a decision, it belongs solely to us, and we’ll answer for what happens next. When we choose the first step on any path, we also choose the last. Accountability must be satisfied and there is no way to escape. We may have good excuses for why we did something, and they may be convincing, but there are no free passes. We are responsible for every decision we make. Nobody can make us do anything we don’t want to do. If we acquiesce when we know it’s the wrong choice, we must endure what comes. We can try to explain our way out, and offer any excuses we think might help us, but nothing can change the path we’ve chosen. Once a decision is made it cannot be erased. But even if we’ve erred, we can do what is necessary to fix the situation, and then proceed forward with renewed confidence and choose more carefully. We are intelligent and capable of making excellent choices, and nothing can prevent us from reaching our goals. With wisdom and patience, we can choose the roads that will move us forward and help us find success.

There are a lot of excuses and reasons for bad decisions. If the situation was intense and we felt pressured, we may say we couldn’t help what happened. We are always in control of everything we do, and even if we’re being pressed or bullied, we can stand firm and make the best decisions possible. Every choice we make takes us somewhere and by being proactive and thoughtful, we can make the best decisions that bring us the results we most desire.

It’s good to be kind and have mercy on someone who chooses badly, but justice must prevail. Nobody is perfect and even if others are considerate and understanding, we are still accountable for our choices. Once we’ve chosen a road, we must travel it to the end. There is no way to erase the past and the best we can do is choose more wisely moving forward. Life is all about learning and every step teaches us something to carry forward. We are able to learn from our mistakes and make excellent choices. Every goal is possible and with wisdom and care, we will reach them.

Today if you’ve made a bad decision that’s bringing you difficulty and trouble, think about your next steps forward. You can change course and turn your direction toward where you most want to go. Stand strong and step forward with confidence. You know what you want, and you will prevail.
