Grounded

9 Jun

We can do a lot of things well and accomplish many goals throughout our lives.  When we have sufficient determination and time we can generally get to most desired destinations.  But sometimes we may try to accomplish something and no matter what we do can’t seem to move forward.  When we struggle and push and still can’t get ahead it’s very frustrating.  Life is complicated and we don’t always know everything when we begin a journey.  If we truly cannot achieve what we’ve set out to do right now it doesn’t mean we have failed.  We can look at the situation objectively, see what the problem is and then revise our plans.  We may need additional information or we may need to wait until we are in a different place in our lives.  Although it’s important to try our best to reach our goals, there is no value in trying over and over again to accomplish something that cannot be accomplished right now.  Recognizing limits is important.  If we simply cannot move forward no matter what we’ve tried the timing may be wrong or we may need to wait until our circumstances have changed.  If the destination is out of reach now we can set it aside and do other things and try again later.  All planes get grounded from time to time.  Once we see what is needed to move forward we may begin again.  We don’t have to stay grounded forever.  We have everything we need to be successful and continue forward.

We only have control over our personal decisions and what we do.  Sometimes when we’re trying to accomplish something and others are involved, their decisions may derail us and push us off track.  If we must have the agreement of others to move forward and that is not forthcoming we may be stopped in our tracks and unable to progress.  If we can’t bring them into agreement we may need to find a way around them to continue forward.  If that isn’t possible it may be necessary to set the goal aside until things change.  Life is fluid and ever changing and in time our circumstances will adjust and we’ll be able to start again.

Unpredictable complications are always a factor.  We can’t know what we don’t know and sometimes there is more to the story than we are aware when we start out.  Others may keep facts from us, things may develop that stop our progress or our lives may change in such a way that we can’t continue forward at this time.  When those things happen we can revise our plans to accommodate whatever has happened and decide how we want to proceed.  We can wait if we need to and do other things until our situation changes.  Life is long and a road that is blocked today may well be clear in the days ahead.  We can prepare for the future and be ready when the time is right to start again.

Today if you’ve been working hard on accomplishing something and no matter what you do can’t move forward, stop and look at the situation openly and completely.  Revise you plans if you need to and if the timing is wrong, set the goal aside and work on other things.  Be patient and continue forward.  Although you may have to wait, eventually everything you desire will come.

Straight Lines

24 Apr

When we want to be successful at something and are working hard to make things happen and push us ahead, we may expect our progress to move forward in a straight line.  If we’re diligently focusing it seems feasible to expect to make continual progress toward the destination.  It would be great if the line from where we are to where we want to go was straight and pointed up all the time.  We can achieve any goal we set our minds to but expecting to get there without delays or detours may not be what we experience.  Things happen, people make decisions, plans change and we may have to go sideways or even turn back a few steps to get back on track.  Success rarely comes easily and generally requires us to rethink, retool, and redirect from time to time.  We can plan and prepare and even if we’re sure the way forward is paved and clear, problems may arise that stop us in our tracks and force us to change our plans.  If the goal we’re seeking is important and we are determined to succeed, we can continue on no matter what complications come.  It may not come easily, the road may not be straight and the way forward may get dark from time to time.  We have enough courage and wisdom to find our way when things go wrong, and we are smart enough and strong enough to do what is needed to find success.

Some goals seem simple when we begin.  We know where we want to go and the road to get there is obvious and clear.  As we plan our way forward we may believe the goal will be easy to achieve.  Sometimes we are right, everything goes exactly as expected and we get to the destination with little struggle or time.  But other times, even if we’ve planned well and are sure the road we want to travel is available and ready for us, things may go awry.  There may be someone making decisions that block our way forward, or things change and the road we planned to travel is no longer available.  We may have to stop and find a new way to get to the destination.

Roadblocks and detours give us the opportunity to stop and think about our way forward again.  Sometimes when we stop in the middle of a journey we find better and easier roads to travel than we saw at the beginning.  We may find the detour points us in a direction previously unknown that gets us to the goal more quickly.  Every problem brings with it information that helps us going forward.  If we embrace the situation and take time to evaluate everything while we’re stopped, we may find answers we’ve been seeking.  There isn’t any goal we can’t achieve.  We have everything we need to find our way forward no matter how complicated the road becomes.  We are wise and powerful, and nothing can stop us from the success we desire.

Today if you’ve been pushing forward and there have been complications that stop your progress, take a moment to look around and see the whole picture.  There are answers there and you will find the way forward.  You can do anything.  There is nothing too complicated or difficult for you to overcome.  Rethink the road ahead and keep going.  Success is waiting for you and you will have it.

Reset

10 Apr

There are many roads and journeys we can take as we live our lives. We can choose any direction or destination we desire and move forward until we get where we want to go. Sometimes we know what we want and exactly how to get there. Other times we may be unsure but continue forward hoping when we reach the destination it will be what we’re seeking. As we travel along if we begin to feel doubt about what we’re doing and aren’t sure the road we’re on is where we want to be, we can step away and change direction. But if we’ve been on the same path for a while and there are a lot of connections we may be hesitant. Turning may mean a lot of change and take a lot of effort. It doesn’t matter how long we’ve been going one direction. We always have the power to move. Everything we do teaches us something and sometimes we have to go left for a while to discover we really want to go right. Life is all about learning. As we travel along sometimes we may decide where we want to go is different than where we’ve been headed. We may always redirect our course going forward in the direction we’re seeking and start again. No step forward is wasted. Each step teaches us something new and as we refine our vision we may correct our direction to where we most want to be.

When we’re working with equipment sometimes everything stops and we get stuck. We have to press the reset button so everything will begin again. We don’t have reset buttons in our lives but we may certainly stop and consider what we’re doing at any time and if we aren’t happy with where we’re headed or haven’t accomplished what we wanted to do, we can reset our lives and start again. We always have the choice to change anything we like. If the road we’re on is not taking us to a destination we want to achieve, we may step away from it and chart a new course.

Change may be unsettling. If we’re resistant to it we may find ourselves doing something we don’t want to do and going somewhere we don’t want to go simply because we’re worried about the change. Routines can be comforting and knowing what to expect is easier than traveling on foreign territory. If we stay in situations we don’t really want we will never find true happiness. There isn’t a road we can’t travel and nothing we can’t achieve if we’re willing to try. We have enough courage and wisdom to make decisions that will bring us real satisfaction. We can choose a new way forward and move in the direction we want most. Our lives are ours to design and we can do anything we like. We can go where we want to go with confidence and clarity, and get to any destination we choose.

Today if you’ve been on the same road for a while and you aren’t sure it’s where you really want to be, change your course. You deserve every happiness and there isn’t anything you can’t achieve. Decide what you want most and then chart your course forward to get there. All your dreams can come true. Start walking toward them. They’re waiting for you.

Sucker Punch

26 Jul

Sometimes we get an unexpected surprise that knocks us off our feet. A “sucker punch” shakes us and suddenly everything is different. It can happen with a job – you go to work one day, and out of the blue you’re fired, let go, or laid off. Maybe there were unforeseen changes in the corporate structure, maybe your boss just decided to down size, or a thousand other reasons, and suddenly you’re out of a job. Or it can happen in our personal lives – we might see the person we’ve been involved with out with someone else in an intimate situation, and suddenly our world turns on its axis. It can happen anywhere, at any time. It’s always unexpected, and usually upsetting. We can’t predict the future, and even at times in our lives when we think things are going fine, everything can change in an instant.

These events tend to take our breath away. Since we don’t see them coming, there is no way to prepare for them. We can be caught in disbelief, we can be lost trying to figure out what just happened, and it takes time to process the change. When we’re shaken, it’s hard to think, hard to figure things out, and hard to look ahead. We need some time to let the change sink in, and how much time that takes depends on us, and the circumstances. Once we realize this is for real, and get over the shock, we have to reorder our lives, and re-position our direction. It’s not easy to adjust to sudden change, but in time, we’ll begin to start figuring things out again.

Changes in our lives are normal. Abrupt changes in our lives are difficult but we can handle them. Instead of a gradual turn on our path, facing a complete stop is hard. It’s not a permanent stop but it takes time to readjust, and get our footing again before we can go forward. When we’re ready, if we take it one step at a time, we’ll find our way in a new direction, and be able to move on. Our confidence will return, our heads will clear, the shock will wear off, and we’ll be ready to start again.

Today if you’ve been stunned or shocked by a sudden change in your life, hold on. Stand still for a while and catch your breath. There is nothing you can’t handle. Even if this hurts badly, you will get through it. Although the clouds may be dark now, there is sunshine ahead. You will laugh again. You just need some time to find a different direction. Take the time you need. When you’re ready your new path will be waiting for you. Look forward. There are wonderful and exciting times just ahead.
