Our lives are filled with experiences and we face new situations every day. When we do well we feel confident and positive about our future. It’s great when things go as planned and we prevail, but sometimes things go the other way and we not only falter but may actually fail in what we’re trying to do. Failure hurts and can rattle our confidence and make us believe we can’t succeed. But it also brings us many personal blessings and is a great teacher. It we allow ourselves to see everything clearly, including our mistakes, we can learn a lot about what doesn’t work and use the lesson to help us moving forward. However, if we refuse to see where we’ve blundered and decide instead to rewrite history so it looks like we had nothing to do with what happened we won’t learn anything from the experience. There will always be other people and situations to blame and if we look for them we’re sure to find them. Pretending we’re not responsible when we fail will never help us. If we want to gain as much as we can moving forward, we must own both our successes and our failures, and let them stand clearly and truthfully. When we are honest about our shortcomings, we learn valuable lessons that teach us about success and show us the way ahead. There is no need to rewrite history. We can let it stand as it happened, gain as much as possible from the experience, and step forward with clarity and confidence. We are capable of every success and nothing is too far for us to reach. Every step we take teaches us something of value. If we take a wrong turn, we can correct our course. We can reach any goal we desire with determination and courage, and every destination is there for us.
We are the only ones who can define who we are and what we want to achieve. There will always be others with opinions about our lives and what we’re doing, and we may certainly listen to them but we are responsible for our own decisions. If we follow along with someone else and things work out we’ll be glad we made the decision to go with them. However, if everything goes south we may feel bad and blame the other party for leading us along. While the idea may have started with them, we own the choice we made to follow along and are responsible for where we end up.
Everybody makes mistakes and when they’re extreme and far reaching, if we’ve hurt others along the way, we’ll have to deal with the situation we’ve created. Looking the other way trying to ignore the mess we’ve made will not make things better. We can own every decision we make, even if it fails, and do what is needed to rectify the situation. There is no need to rewrite the past. We can own what’s happened and move forward confidently and with purpose.
Today if you’ve made a big mistake and are trying to figure out what to do next, own your part and take a step toward resolving the issue. There is no shame in failure and you can learn much and take that knowledge with you. Be confident and clear in your decisions. You are capable of great success and nothing can hold you down. Keep moving forward. The best is yet to come.
