Following Along

27 Apr

When we meet someone we really admire and who impresses us we may desire to be like them.  They may have a life situation we like or be doing things we want to do but so far have not accomplished.  As we are drawn in we may follow them around trying to learn more about how they live and the choices they make.  It seems logical that if we want something in our lives and find someone who has it we can copy what they’ve done and achieve the goal for ourselves.  That could work but we’re all different and what works for one person doesn’t always translate into success for someone else.  A lot depends on who we are, where we are and what opportunities are available to us.  Following someone else along, doing everything they do, and saying all the things they say will not duplicate their experiences in our lives.  We are unique and have very specific gifts to offer.  There is no way to be exactly like anyone else and surrendering who we are to find success will never bring us happiness.  We can achieve anything we want our own way.  We can follow good advice and mimic successful behavior when it works for us but we must be genuine if we want real success.  Each of us has our own combination of blessings to share with the world and individual gifts can only be offered by those who possess them.  Recognizing our personal uniqueness and embracing our personal style will help us open all the doors we seek moving forward.  Every success is possible when we are authentic and true to ourselves.  There is no need to follow along behind anyone else.  We know what we want and we know where we’re going.

Some people project authority in everything they do and we may be captured under their spell.  If they are honest and caring their influence may enhance our lives and deepen our understanding.  But if they are spiteful, aggressive, or mean to others as they push forward, if we follow them we may have to compromise our standards.  No matter what we’re trying to achieve we can hold fast to the standards we value.  We have enough wisdom and personal strength to accomplish anything and we can do it in ways that ennoble us and take us closer to the person we want to be.

There may be times when we’re influenced by someone who takes us down a road we don’t want to travel.  Once we realize we’re headed toward a destination we don’t want we can stop and redirect our way forward.  We don’t have to remain in any situation that doesn’t work for us no matter who is involved.  We may step away at any time and start again.  We always know what road we want to travel.  We are courageous enough to find it and move forward toward any goal we seek.

Today if you’ve been following someone else hoping for success but want to change direction, step off the road you’re on and redirect your course.  You are in control of your life and know exactly what you want.  You can reach any destination you desire and all options are possible.  Look ahead and chart your course.  You are unique and the world is blessed by the influence you bring.  Be yourself.  Every success is there for you and you will find it.
