The Long Long Road

18 Apr

Some goals we want to achieve are easy to accomplish and we get them done quickly. We know what we want, we know how to get it and we simply do what is needed to get it done. It’s great when we complete a goal and can move forward but sometimes the objective is more elusive and takes more time. If the goal is complicated or difficult we may have to work toward it for a long time. Bigger goals tend to take longer but our greatest satisfaction comes when we work hard toward something we really want and finally achieve it. While we push forward there will likely be problems along the way, we may get pulled from our focus by other things, plans may go awry, and we may take a wrong turn and have to head back a few steps to find the way forward again. When we’re trying to get something we really want, if there are a lot of difficulties going forward we may become frustrated and think about giving up. Most things in life worth having require effort and often the bigger the goal the more effort it takes to accomplish. We can pace ourselves to travel even the longest road. Endurance is sometimes just a question of patience. We can get through any challenge by taking it one step at a time. There is no goal we can’t reach and no road too long for us. We can do what it takes to accomplish any goal we set and we will succeed. If we keep our eyes focused on what we want most, no matter what confounds us we will find our way forward.

As we navigate ahead if we don’t move forward as quickly as we want we may begin to doubt our ability to succeed. Doubt may make us question every step we’ve taken so far or even the decision to try at all. We may start to believe we could never accomplish what we’ve set out to do and wonder why we ever thought we could. If we listen to doubt we may convince ourselves we will never succeed. But doubt is often just a result of fatigue and if we take a rest and step back for a time we may re-evaluate our way forward and when we’re ready, begin again. There really isn’t anything we can’t do. We can plan our way forward and fearlessly continue on.

We can design our lives any way we want them and we can change things any time we like. If we aren’t happy living the way we’ve been living we can turn our course and choose another road. It doesn’t matter if others agree with us and it doesn’t matter how hard it is to make the change. We are perfectly capable of getting the lives we most want and we can turn our course at any time. We deserve complete happiness and if we don’t have it now, we can do what is needed to get it. Our lives belong to us. How we live them is our responsibility. We can accomplish anything we like and have the lives we desire most.

Today if you’ve been on a long road toward a goal that has been hard to achieve and you are beginning to doubt you will succeed, remember you have everything you need to win. You are strong enough and wise enough to do anything. Keep pushing forward. The goal is just ahead. One more step forward is all you need. Take one more step and you’ll be there.

Same Time Same Place

6 Oct

There is a law of physics that states no two objects can occupy the same space at the same time. One will necessarily take the place of the other and push it away. Although we might recognize this as truth, there are times when we really want to do something, but at the same time are afraid to accomplish it. There is sometimes an internal struggle between truly wanting something and being afraid we can’t have it. We feel torn and conflicted, but the fact of the matter is, even though we believe we are thinking about both possibilities concurrently, one is overcoming the other. It is impossible to have faith and doubt at the same time. One will take the place of the other and determine our actions. If we struggle thinking about what we want, and do nothing, the fear is in control. But if we’re doing everything possible to make the change happen despite the fear, we are in control. If we want to find success in anything, the first step, the most important step, is to be in control.

We can make lots of changes in our lives. The small changes are easier to accomplish than the large ones, and it’s the big changes that impact us the most. It takes more effort to change something with a big impact on our lives, but the rewards of succeeding in making the change are great. If we want to change career fields to something completely different, it takes courage and faith to do what is needed to make the transition and be successful. If we want to make serious changes in our personal life, it takes determination and focus to make them happen. If we want to change our physical appearance it takes dedication and a strong will to endure what is needed. The biggest positive changes we make in our lives bring the biggest rewards. When we accomplish them we feel powerful and invincible. We did something really difficult and we succeeded. Our confidence will soar and we’ll be happy we persevered.

When we’re facing a decision to do something difficult, we may spend some time going back and forth weighing the costs and the options. We look at all the benefits to be gained by making the change, and what will happen if we did nothing. Once we decide we want to move forward and begin doing what is needed to begin the process of changing, we may have moments of doubt. We may be afraid we won’t succeed. Others may encourage us or they may say we’re crazy for trying. But it doesn’t matter what anyone says. What matters is what we want most. If this is what we want, we can push the doubts out of our minds and be confident. We can believe we can succeed and we can continue to push forward a little every day. If we have faith in ourselves, and if we keep going, we will be successful in whatever change we are seeking. We will overcome every obstacle, and we will win.

Today if you’re facing doubt over a decision you really want to achieve, push the doubt from your mind. Have faith. You have everything you need to succeed. You’ve already decided what you want. All you have to do is keep walking forward. You can overcome anything in the way, and you can climb any hill that lies ahead. You are strong and you will win. Keep your eyes on the goal. It’s closer than you think.

Giving the Benefit

16 Aug

We base our conclusions on many things. If we’re wise, we will be careful to base them on fact. Unfortunately, there are times when we make conclusions based on a situation, an impression, or hearsay. Sometimes those conclusions are right, but sometimes we’re way off the mark. When we interact with others it’s best to use facts when trying to understand what is happening. If we jump to a conclusion based on something we think we see, something we think happened, or something someone else said, we may be completely wrong. If we have doubts, we can give the benefit of the doubt before we decide to judge. If we do that, and things change we can adjust our perception. However, if we’ve already tried and convicted before the facts are known, it’s much harder to clean up the mess we’ve left in our wake.

Giving the benefit of the doubt means to withhold judgment on anything until all the facts are known. We wait before we assume anything, and allow ourselves to believe that the other party is innocent unless the facts show otherwise. If we wait until the entire story is revealed, sometimes we find that our first impressions were incorrect. Giving the benefit of the doubt increases harmony, and helps to build trust. If those around us know we won’t jump, and convict them before they’ve had a chance to explain, they’ll trust us to be there and listen.

We might be in a situation where we’ve been hurt because someone determined we had erred, or failed, or in some way done something wrong before we had a chance to defend our decisions. When that happens, we feel frustrated and unfairly persecuted. Everyone deserves to tell their story. If it’s assumed that we’ve chosen the wrong path before we can even explain, we may feel beset and hopeless. We might decide there is no point in even trying because decisions about us have already been made. But we have the right to speak up, and we can state our case clearly, and without reservation. Our story is ours to tell, and even if conclusions have already been made about us, we have the right to tell it. We can stand up for ourselves and be strong.

Today if something goes awry and you’re sure someone has done something wrong, wait and give them the benefit of the doubt. Don’t conclude anything until you get all the facts. If someone else has made an assumption about you that isn’t right, be courageous, and state your case clearly. We all deserve the benefit of the doubt. Today, give it, and make sure you get it. Listen and go forward with confidence. Be fair in all your dealings, and there is a better chance that others will be fair with you.
