We go through a lot of experiences as we travel through our lives. Most of us want to be open and honest, but we might face a time when something happens, or we do something we don’t want anyone to know about. Maybe it’s something we’re ashamed of, or we fear others will think less of us if the truth comes out. If we’ve done something illegal or unethical, we may be intensely motivated to keep it hidden. Nobody is perfect and we all do things we wish we hadn’t, but keeping secrets isn’t easy. They are heavy, and tend to get heavier as time passes. Truth is powerful, and no matter what we do or how well we try to hide it, will eventually make itself known. Nothing can hold it back indefinitely. We may feel secure that we have covered all the bases, but we cannot know everything and we’re all far more connected than we may realize. Our lives are ours to design and we can live them any way we want. Trying to hide something we’ve done may work for a time, but eventually, however long that takes, the truth will rise and we’ll be exposed. Nothing is powerful enough to hold us in place forever. We are strong enough and brave enough to face the consequences of anything that’s happened. We can open all the doors, and move through whatever we must to correct our course. There is great relief and blessing in telling the truth. All the destinations we desire are still there for us, and with honesty and determination, we will reach them all.
Some people are very private. They don’t want to share intimate details about their lives and prefer to keep a low profile. There is a difference between being private and being secretive. We’re all individuals, and are entitled to set the boundaries of what we do and how we manage our own lives. There are no mandatory rules, and we can determine how much we’ll say and what we’ll do. It’s all up to us, and we can do things that make us comfortable while still sharing our lives with those around us.
If we’ve made a mistake that is far reaching and believe our standing with others will be diminished if they find out, we may try to lock it away and keep it hidden. Every decision we make has a consequence and takes us somewhere. Keeping secrets may cause us to entangle our lives as we try to skirt around what has happened. It’s much harder to navigate a web of lies than it is to simply face the truth. Our lives are important, and by being honest in all our dealings, we can pave the road ahead toward where we most want to go. We can trust ourselves to be truthful and manage whatever comes.
