Horseshoes

24 Oct

When we want to accomplish something we want to do our best but sometimes, because of various factors, we only get close to the goal and don’t actually reach the prize.  There is an old saying that close only counts in hand grenades and horseshoes.  Hand grenades for obvious reasons, and horseshoes because you don’t have to get a ringer to get points.  In our lives, if we really want to accomplish anything, just getting close to the goal will never take us where we want to be.  Of course, there may be times when we can’t do something because of decisions being made by others or situations we can’t overcome, but most of the time our own choices keep us from the goals we want to achieve.  We can do anything we want to do but if we aren’t determined to go all the way, chances are we’ll get sidetracked and quit.  There are unlimited reasons not to do something, and if we don’t want to continue any reason will do.  But if the goal is important, even if it’s hard, we can face whatever is in the way and push through to the end.  All options are there for us if we want them badly enough.  Our lives are ours to design and we can do anything if we’re willing to take care of whatever we must to prevail.  Being close is fine if that’s all we want, but actually reaching the prize will bring us great satisfaction and happiness.  We deserve every blessing possible and can do whatever is needed to reach any goal we desire.

We all have different ideas about how to live life.  For some it’s enough to dream about what they want to accomplish.  They spend their time thinking about how their lives could be but do nothing to change their situation.  For others it’s fine to try to reach a goal but once it’s no longer fun to push forward, they stop and return to where they were.  We can live our lives any way we like and if we really want to accomplish something nothing can stop us from achieving it.  All dreams are possible if we’re willing to do what is needed to accomplish them.  We can have the lives we want the most and find complete happiness.

When we want to do something different than what’s happening around us we may face questions and opposition.  Many people prefer to keep things predictable and comfortable.  There’s nothing wrong with doing things the same way if that’s what we want, but if we yearn for something more it’s always possible.  We can change any situation we like and move into uncharted territory whenever we choose.  There are endless opportunities possible and we can try as many as we like.  Our lives belong to us and we can do anything.  The lives we dream about are waiting for us and when we’re ready, we can have them.

Today if you’ve been pushing toward a goal but are tired of the struggle and thinking about giving up, decide what you want most.  If the goal is important you can reach it.  There isn’t anything you can’t do.  Decide what kind of life you want and then do what is needed to achieve it.  All dreams are possible and you can make them come true.  Create the life you want the most and every happiness will follow.

I love that line, “most of the time our own choices keep us from the goals we want to achieve”. I actually read a book that said something that we put our own happiness on hold everyday and it’s actually insane to think about. Great writing by the way 🙂
