Getting Lost

12 Oct

When we know where we’re going and have a clear view of the way forward, we are confident we’ll reach our goal and make our way to the destination.  However, if what we want to accomplish is new we may consider all our options and make a plan for the road ahead, but we really don’t know how things will roll out.  We may take a wrong turn and get confused and lost along the way, and it may take time to figure out how to correct our course to get back on track.  When we get lost we may believe the time we spend trying to find our way again is wasted.  After all, if we had gone the right way to begin with we wouldn’t have spent all that time trying to discern how to proceed.  But instead of seeing time spent trying to find our way forward as time forfeited, we can see it as time invested in learning about what works.  Everything we do teaches us something.  When we get lost and have to explore new possibilities, we have the chance to open doors we may have ignored simply walking past them.  Getting lost allows us to stop and look around and see all the possibilities before us.  We may discover a new road that brings great blessings as it takes us to the destination we desire.  As we consider new possibilities, we may change our focus and decide to push toward something we hadn’t previously considered.  Getting lost isn’t always negative.  New answers and our best ideas may arise as we open our minds to something different.  We can go anywhere we choose, and if the road turns we can still reach our goals.  Nothing is too far away or too difficult to reach.  We have everything we need to do anything we desire.

Maps are helpful when we’re planning a trip and if we take a ruler we can draw a straight line from where we are to where we want to go.  It’s easy to see the path but unfortunately, roads don’t always go in a straight line.  They twist and turn, go around obstacles, switch back to where we were to avoid something in the way, and can cover many more miles than if they went directly from one point to another.  Our lives are the same way.  Rarely will we get from one place to another in a perfectly straight, unbroken line.  There will be complications and detours to navigate, and many distractions, but if we keep our eyes focused on the goal we will succeed.

Getting lost on our journey gives us the opportunity to stop and rethink our plans.  Standing still can open new doors and we can decide if the goal we were seeking is still what we want, or if there are other priorities we would rather pursue.  We can go anywhere we choose and taking time to consider all the options possible will help us make choices that will bring us happiness and satisfaction.  Our lives are ours to design and nothing is impossible.  We can do anything we desire and make every dream reality.

Today if you’ve gotten lost on your way forward and are frustrated thinking you’re wasting time, look around and see all the possibilities before you. You know more now than you did before and have a better idea of what lies ahead.  Choose the road you want the most.  You can reach any goal you desire.  Be confident and step forward.
