Standing Still

2 Feb

Everyone has dreams about how they want their life to go and what they want to happen.  If we want to accomplish something we can move forward toward the goal and with time and effort, achieve it.  It won’t always go the way we planned, and it won’t always be as easy as we hoped but anything we want can be accomplished.  If we’ve tried and failed at several goals we may begin to believe we are destined to stay where we are.  We may lose our confidence and courage to step out of what is familiar and try anything new.  After all, there is no way to know what could go wrong or how hard it might be, and if we don’t feel sure we can find our way we may simply choose instead to stand still.  There is nothing wrong with standing still if we’re taking time to plan our next move or if we need to think about the way forward.  But standing still and giving up on moving again will not make us happy.  We may feel comfortable in the same place knowing the scenery and the players, but it’s impossible to move forward or accomplish anything new by staying where we are.  Life is filled with possibilities and we can reach anything if we are willing to stretch.  Even if everything has gone wrong in the past, and even if nothing we’ve tried so far has worked, we can start again.  We have endless chances to succeed.  There will always be another door to open and another road to travel.  We can be brave enough to move ahead and find the way to any destination we desire, and make all our dreams come true.

There is comfort in familiarity.  We know where we are, we know what to expect, and we know who is involved.  It’s easy to figure out the next step when we’ve been on the same road for a while.  But familiar territory was once foreign to us and only after the passage of time has it become comfortable.  Every foreign situation is only foreign until we make it ours.  We can try new things understanding that in time they will become familiar and comfortable.  Stepping out of our routines and taking a chance on something new will refresh us and bring us experiences that will broaden our understanding and deepen our lives.

We cannot reach our full potential by repeating the same patterns day after day.  If we want to go far and develop our talents, and if we want to reach higher, we must be willing to break away from what we know and try something new.  It takes courage to step into the unknown not knowing what lies ahead, but we have all the courage we need to do anything.  There will never be a perfect moment to begin, and waiting for that to happen is the same as doing nothing.  We can start now, today, right where we are, and push forward onto a new road.  We can believe in our dreams and do what is needed to take control of them and make them ours.

Today if you’ve been standing still waiting for the perfect moment to try something new, let go and start moving forward.  Every dream you imagine can be yours.  Be confident.  You already have everything you need to succeed at anything you desire.  Go forward and reach further.  Open all the doors and you’ll find complete happiness.

Time’s Up

20 Nov

There are times we might face a deadline with something we’re working on.  It doesn’t happen all the time and when it does there may be an added measure of intensity and focus on the project in an effort to comply with the required parameters set forth.  If we have all the information we need and are able to plan effectively, often we will meet the deadline.  But if there are surprise developments that block our way forward, they may uncontrollably delay our progress.  If the goal is very important to our personal or professional growth, any complication may increase our stress level as we try to proceed.  When there is much to do and time is short that stress may become quite intense as we try to push ahead.  If the situation becomes confusing or there are a lot of factors in play, we may feel overwhelmed and unable to focus clearly on what we should do next.  Time constraints add an additional dimension of pressure to any task we want to complete.  When there is a lot going on and much to accomplish we can find our way through more easily by stepping back for a moment and looking at the big picture.  It’s easy to get caught up in one detail and lose track of how far we’ve already come.  When we see everything objectively we can more clearly identify what we must do next and see the way forward.  We are capable of managing many complex things and can do anything we desire.  There isn’t anything we can’t accomplish if we keep moving forward.  Our abilities are limitless and we have everything necessary to succeed.

Every story has many moving parts and interpretations.  If we are given all the information we need at the beginning of any task we have a better chance of completing it.  But often we only get some of the facts and additional information comes forward as we move along.  Although we may be grateful for the new details as they arise, they may cause us to change our direction completely which will cost additional time.  The best we can do is move forward with the information we have and when new developments arise do our best to modify our course as effectively as possible.

Nothing ever goes the way we think it will.  There will always be surprise developments or complications we didn’t plan for.  There are countless ways things that can go awry and when we encounter them we may struggle to discern what to do next.  There isn’t a destination we can’t reach.  We may need to revise and regroup, sometimes more than once, but with determination we can find the way forward.  There isn’t a goal too difficult to reach.  We can do anything we set out to do, be confident of success, and accomplish what is needed to achieve it.

Today if you’re under time pressure to complete a task and it seems impossible to reach, step back for a moment and look at how far you’ve come already.  The goal is only steps away.  Plan your way forward and keep your eyes on the destination.  You are strong and capable, and nothing is beyond your grasp.  Everything you desire is possible and you will reach it.

Accomplished

6 Nov

We meet all kinds of people as we go through our lives.  Some of them share common traits with us and others are very different.  We all define success in unique ways and accomplish many different things as we navigate forward.  Sometimes if we meet new people who have achieved great and impressive goals we may feel our lives are small in comparison.  We may look at ourselves compared to them and believe we haven’t done enough or our contributions are in some way less valuable.  None of us will have identical experiences and we all move in different ways on the roads we have chosen.  When we see the success others have achieved we may think our successes aren’t as important or are somehow beneath them.  It’s easy to believe we haven’t done enough when we compare ourselves to others we admire but every achievement no matter how small has value.  Every single step we take forward is an important success.  If we’re on the road we want to be on and headed in the direction we want to go we are successful.  The world’s ideas of success mean nothing.  We define our personal success by the standards we set for ourselves.  Maybe we haven’t published a book, run a marathon, or built a corporation.  But if what we’ve done has brought us satisfaction and happiness, we are successful.  Nothing can compare to the joy we find when we accomplish something we truly desire, no matter if others notice or not.  We are defined by our own standards.  Our lives are valuable and important and our contributions count.  Everything we do makes an impact and we are an integral part of the world around us.

Fame and fortune are big and spectacular.  We see it splashed across headlines, the covers of magazines and those who enjoy it get a lot of attention.  If we get caught up in what others think we should achieve and aren’t on those roads, we may believe we are failures.  If we haven’t earned a lot of money, or done anything sensational and noteworthy to those around us, we might think our lives are inconsequential and meaningless.  But every life has value.  Every one of us plays a role in the history of the world.  Every decision we make brings a result that affects the situation around us.  We fill an emptiness the world would experience without us.

We define our lives and design them in ways that bring us happiness and satisfaction.  What we value may not be what others find important.  Our goals are unique to what we want to accomplish.  We need not define our personal success by the parameters the world sets.  Our happiness is achieved when we do what is most important to us and takes us where we want to go.  The world belongs to us and we may define it according to our unique standards and desires.

Today if you’ve been comparing yourself to the successes of those around you and feel you haven’t accomplished enough, remember your life is yours to define.  You decide what your personal success looks like.  You are important and the world needs your influence.  Be yourself and be confident.  You have so much to offer and we’re all lucky you’re here.

Auto Pilot

30 Aug

Often our lives are very busy and we have lots of things to get done.  We might have a list of tasks to accomplish or be in situations where there are constant developments that need our attention.  When we’re working hard moving forward and accomplishing things we may step into a sort of auto pilot role.  We may finish one thing and then immediately begin the next without much thought.  If we aren’t paying attention to what’s going on we may make mistakes and take turns that bring complications and problems.  We can’t go back in time and if we create an issue that complicates our way forward we will have to solve it before we can continue.  The time spent correcting our course and cleaning up a mess cannot be recaptured.  Auto pilot is great when there are parameters set up to allow things to go well but in our lives if we don’t pay attention we may falter and stumble.  Even when we’re busy and pressed to accomplish much we can step back for a moment to ensure we plan our next steps effectively.  The old saying that “haste makes waste” can apply.  We don’t have to hurry to be successful.  We can be wise and careful, and still accomplish everything we set out to do.

Some people are great planners.  They may have several calendars to post their projects and tasks on, electronic reminders to alert them when something is due, or composed daily schedules that allocate time for each endeavor.  Planning is great and is a useful tool but planning is just a way to organize our tasks and doesn’t allow for unforeseen complications.  Nothing is set in stone and often things happen that impact even the best designed plans.  When complications arise, as they inevitably will, we can adapt to the changes and modify our course going forward to complete the task.  Change is constant and being willing to adjust our trajectory will allow us to address our needs and find success.

Life is unpredictable and sometimes something we want to accomplish isn’t possible now.  Perhaps the timing is wrong, or others who need to be involved are otherwise occupied, or we don’t have all the information to proceed.  There are few times in life when we are subject to unchangeable deadlines.  If we need to set something aside for now, we can.  It doesn’t mean we’ll never get it done, it just means we plan to accomplish it at a later time.  Being willing to adjust our timeframes and continue forward will help us complete all the tasks we desire and continue forward with success.  We can be flexible and change our parameters whenever we need to.  Things will change and the opportunity to complete every task will arise.  When it does we’ll be ready and able to move forward.

Today if you’ve got a lot to accomplish and you’re rushing from one item to the next, take a moment to think about how you want to proceed.  You are capable of doing great things and accomplishing much.  Give yourself time to plan your next step forward and be confident and aware.  You can do anything and do it well.  Success is always there for you and you will gain it.

It’s About Time

24 Aug

We often have many things to accomplish with our time and if we are overloaded we may dovetail items in an effort to get everything done.  Although we call this multi-tasking, current research indicates it’s impossible for us to concentrate on more than one thing at a time.  If we crunch everything together and push through them all at once we might get them done but we will never be able to pay attention to all the details needed to get everything done well.  When we’re pressed and feel pressure to finish projects we may believe we have no choice but to do them all at once.  Getting many things done is helpful when there is a lot to do but if we have to go back and fix things because we didn’t do them well the first time it may take more time in the end than if we had waited until we could do them right.  There is a balance between doing things and doing them well.  We live in an immediate gratification world.  Everyone seems to want everything right now and it can be hard to keep up.  We can acknowledge our abilities and recognize time constraints, and then make a plan that will allow us to move forward while still giving us the time we need to be successful.  No matter how much there is to do, we are in control of how we proceed.  We can be thoughtful and wise, and move forward effectively by carefully assessing what we need to do and the best way to get it done.  Success is always there for us.  We have everything we need to handle even very stressful situations and find the best way through.

Some people are very impatient.  When they want something done, they want it done immediately.  If they are powerful and task us with a project we may feel the need to drop everything else to address their request.  That may work sometimes but all our projects are important and if we stop in the middle of something to start another task we may lose our focus and momentum.  When we return to the first task we may have to start all over to find our way through.  Going backward will never take us forward.  Even if someone asks us to do something right away, we can decide where our priorities lie and make the best decision to manage everything.

We all want to be helpful when others ask us for assistance.  If we always agree to do everything we’re asked to do we may find our lives are filled with the needs of others and little time to live for ourselves.  If we are encompassed with chores and tasks we will likely burn out and feel frustrated.  We are in control of our lives and we never have to do more than we are comfortable with.  We can say no when we need to.  Our time is ours to manage and we can handle it in ways that bring us joy and happiness.

Today if you’re overwhelmed with everything you must accomplish, make a plan to get the most important tasks completed.  Be sure to schedule time for yourself to take a break and refresh.  You are capable and strong and can do anything you choose.  Remember how important you are and plan your time in ways that bring you confidence and joy.  There isn’t anything you can’t do and do well.  Take it step by step and you’ll succeed.
