Letting Them

25 Aug

There are all kinds of people in the world. Most of them are good and try to do their best. They aren’t hateful, don’t kick dogs or take candy from small children. But there are all kinds of people in the world, and not everyone will be nice, kind, moral, decent, or law abiding. We will likely meet someone at some point who is mean to us, or treats us with disrespect or worse. We’re in control of our lives and decide who we will have relationships with and what we will tolerate. Nobody wants to be abused, but we might find ourselves in a situation where due to circumstances around us, or those in authority over us, we have let others ridicule, demean, or hurt us intentionally. Maybe they are a family member we don’t feel we can disobey or stand up to. Or a boss who has the power to wreck our lives. Maybe they are someone we have a relationship with that is hurtful but we can’t seem to disengage from. There are endless scenarios, and one thing is certain, we are the only ones who can stop others from hurting us. Someone else may step in from time to time and defend us, but generally it’s all on us. Others will hurt us for as long as we let them. No matter what we’ve been told or led to believe, we are worthy of respect and valuable to the world. Our presence here brings great light and goodness to the world, and nobody else can offer the gifts we have to give. We deserve complete happiness, and with courage and authority, we can make it ours. Nobody is more valuable than we are. If we’re being abused, we can stand strong, be confident, and speak up. Our future is ours to design, and we can step away from any situation that isn’t working, and move in a new direction at any time. We are more powerful than we believe, and every blessing is there for us.

Some people like to put others down. They may criticize our appearance, the way we talk, the decisions we’ve made or endless other things. If someone doesn’t like something we’re doing, that is their problem to deal with. We don’t need the approval of others to do anything we desire, and we don’t need permission to begin. Like the stars in the sky, we are unique and have our own light to share. By moving away from those who hold us back and take control of our lives, we can reach any goal or destination, and find great satisfaction and happiness.

Family relationships can be very powerful, and when they are toxic can bring great frustration and grief into our lives. We only have control over our own decisions, and cannot prevent others from doing or saying things that hurt us. But we decide how we’ll manage what they do. We never have to stand still and take abuse. We can speak up and set whatever necessary boundaries we need to ensure our comfort and protection. We are strong and capable, and can have the lives we desire.

Today if someone has been hurting you and making you feel small, remember how unique and amazing you are. There isn’t anyone else like you in all of creation. You bring great blessings to the world, and deserve the very best of everything. Be confident and take control. Every single dream is waiting for you, and you will reach them all.
