When we have a lot to do and many things to accomplish we sometimes make lists. As we get something done we might check it off and move onto the next item. When all our tasks have been done and we have many check marks showing our progress we may feel great accomplishment at what we’ve achieved. Making a check mark when we complete something helps us see our progress and makes it easy to see what we have yet to do. Lists are great for chores and errands but in our personal lives the things we most want to accomplish aren’t always that easy to check off. Personal growth doesn’t happen all at once and even if we’re working hard toward achieving it, it’s unlikely we’ll check it off quickly. Change isn’t usually a one step process. It may require us to modify and re-think many parts of our lives before we can move forward. We are complex beings and nothing is ever as easy as it looks at the beginning. Personal growth is a progression from one place to another. It doesn’t happen instantaneously and may take considerable time. It won’t work to make a list of personal changes we want to achieve and expect to check them off like a list of chores. We can set small goals that will lead us to the change we want and as we master one move onto the next. Each day we can move forward a little more. We can do anything we want to do and change anything in our lives we desire but we must do it our own way on our own timetable. We don’t need a check mark to show how far we’ve come. Growth is a continual process and once we’ve reached a specific goal we may continue on to the next.
Being goal oriented helps us accomplish many things. We can make a plan, decide the steps we want to take and begin forward. When we look inward the changes we desire will require personal thought and introspection. There is no schedule or time frame restriction on personal growth. We move forward as we change and modify our behaviors. It may come quickly or it may take some time. We can take things step by step and embrace change in ways that are best for us individually.
When we really want to make a personal change, we may be impatient and expect it to happen overnight. Our personalities are complex and there are many facets to the behaviors that define us. We can change anything we desire but if we must modify long standing patterns and routines it will require effort. Forging a new road forward may take time and perseverance. With patience and determination there isn’t anything we can’t do. We have everything we need to accomplish anything we desire if we resolve to make it happen and refuse to quit. We can design our lives any way we like and there isn’t anything we can’t do.
Today if you want to change something in your life but it’s harder than you thought it would be and taking longer than you imagined, keep moving forward. The goal is within reach and you will achieve it. You have everything you need to accomplish anything you desire. Keep moving forward. You will reach the destination.
